Readathoning Like The Wind

Friends, I thought I might as well throw my hat in the ring for the October 2012 Readathon, seeing as how I have done all of the Dewey Readathons since becoming a blogger, except for one because I had engaged in a stupid amount of grown up activities the night before. I’ve got my pile ready and have resigned myself to eating healthy for the readathon, because apparently healthy food gives you more energy than junk food. Who’d have thought?!

I likely will not get to all of these books, but I love having a huge pile to pick from and the sense of accomplishment from demolishing the stack.

Here’s what I’ve picked:

readathonstack

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon vol. 1 by Naoko Takeuchi – Because you guys, I used to be the biggest otaku out there, like down to having one of the senshi uniforms BEFORE you could order them online. So I’m psyched to return to the world of my youth.

The Vicar Of Nibbleswicke by Roald Dahl – It’s tradition, y’all. I read a Dahl book every Readathon. Plus it is legit, 40 pages WITH PICTURES. THAT IS HOW YOU WIN A READATHON!

The Mouse And The Motorcycle by Beverly Clearly – How have I not read this? And if I did, why don’t I remember?

The Boy In The Box by Cary Fagan – Got to get some Vine reading in.

Miracle’s Boys by Jacqueline Woodson – Obvi, I have not reviewed nearly enough Woodson on this blog.

Adios, Nirvana by Conrad Wesselhoft – That awkward moment when a book has been in your physical and netgalley TBR since 2010 and you decide to fix that problem.

Liar & Spy by Rebecca Stead – Middle grade FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER.

The Golden Door by Emily Rodda – A quest that could cost the MC his life? UM HELLO YES.

The Whispering House by Rebecca Wade – This looks like it’ll put me in the Halloween mood.

The Great Unexpected by Sharon Creech – What better time to read this one than a Readathon?

The Turning by Francine Prose – Awwww yeah Turn Of The Screw Adaptation yeahhh

Monsters On The March by Derek The Ghost – HALLOWEEN SPIRIT via Middle Grade, y’all.

Through To You by Emily Hainsworth – I’ve had this on my TBR for like months now and it’s pretty and hardcover and under 300 pages. YEAH BUDDY.

Wings Of Fire: The Dragonet Prophecy – Tui T. Sutherland – I don’t even know what this is about except dragons and it’s a vine book.

Bone by Jeff Smith – I put this in every readathon, but I swear I will read the first volume this time.

I also have an audio book of Brandon Sanderson’s Legion and Blackwood by Gwenda Bond on my kindle. Plus, idk if it counts but Scarlet by Marissa Meyer is totally in the background of that picture, thus a potential readathon book.

A few other readathon plans:

  • Eat healthy – no junk food this time around, except for cookies.
  • Take one hour or so to do unofficial cheerleading on the blogs of my friends.
  • Keeping with the health theme, taking my book with me on the exercise bike.

  1. Yay! Great stack! Hope you get through at least like 7 or 8! Don’t forget to add them to the books form on the site when you’re done! Have a great ‘thon!!!

    • Hah, thanks. I got to 10 the last readathon AND went to bed around 2 a.m., so I think I can likely make it that far this time around.

I always forget to add the books, but I will this time.

      Thanks 🙂

  2. I’m curious about your thoughts on Liar & Spy when you get to it. I enjoyed it but not as much as When You Reach Me. Bone is a great book to read during the read-a-thon. Happy reading.

  3. Good luck with the readathon! I’m really excited to hear how you like THE GREAT UNEXPECTED and THROUGH TO YOU. I have to get ready for a job interview, so I need to sit this one out.

  4. Great stack! I will also be reading one of Jacqueline Woodson’s books tomorrow, maybe two depending. And I cannot WAIT for Scarlet to come out. I want to read it so bad. Have fun tomorrow!

  5. I have not doubt that you’ll make it through a lot of books in your stack – you read so fast! It’s good to see that you’ll have some healthy snacks too. I just went to the store to pick up a veggie tray. I was going to make some pumpkin cupcakes, but at the last minutes decided to pass on those.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting! Good luck!

  6. Is that how healthy food works? 😉 I’ve been doing it WRONG, lol

    Nice stack! Good luck tomorrow!

  7. Great book selection! and good luck!
I used to be a huge otaku too!
to the lengths that I attempted to cut my hair like Sakura from Card Captor Sakura, not once but twice, even though both times was a disaster.

Never actually read the Sailor moon manga, though, just watched the series.

  8. There are so many great books on this Readathon TBR! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on all of them. I hope you start Bone this time, though. It is a fantastic read, and it’s length is not intimidating at all once you start. I reread it every year, and I wish it was even longer. Good luck, April!

  9. picture books and children’s reads – that is how you dominate a readathon!

The Mouse and the Motorcycle was a favorite of mine back in the day. My mom was a second grade teacher and Beverly Cleary was basically her god.

Also, I’d never heard of The Golden Door or The Whispering House, but they both look awesome.

  10. I’m doing the Read-a-Thon, too. April 2012 was my first time, but I had a lot of fun, so I’m back.

I’ve got some fruit for healthy snacks and I think I’ll take your exercising idea, too, and maybe go jogging for a while with an audiobook.

  11. Good luck and such a huge pile of books to work through 🙂

  12. I envy everyone readathoning this weekend, but my time is coming 🙂 I generally stay in my pjs the weekend after Thanksgiving and read, read, read :):) Have fun!

  13. I’ve never done a readathon before but I generally love the idea. It’s too bad I didn’t find out about this one in time. I think, perhaps, the coolest thing is that you’re able to support your friends and make new ones at the same time. Great job!
