In My Mailbox (87) / Stacking The Shelves (8)

Y’all, this has legitimately been the laziest Sunday EVER for me. I didn’t wake up until 10:30 and I’ve been battling the worst readover ever (the book version of a hangover). BUT, I’ve been doing wonderful productive things like updating goodreads and listening to Curse Of The Blue Tattoo by LA Meyer. ANYWAYS, I know you all came for the books.

In My Mailbox 87

For Review:

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer (Requested Review Copy) – Y’all, I remember being incredibly jealous during ALA when all these hauls had Scarlet, but would tell myself to be patient AND YAY PATIENCE PAYS OFF. I cannot wait to continue Cinder’s story and meet Scarlet and see Kai again!

Velveteen by Daniel Marks (Vine) – Okay, I already had this from Netgalley, but because I am kind of falling behind on Vine reviews and because my Netgalley completed stats aren’t what I wish them to be, I decided to just pick this one out from Vine anyways.

The Trouble With Flirting by Claire LaZebnik (Unsolicited) – Y’all, this contemporary book takes place at a college that at least 5 of my music wing friends from high school went to, so I AM EXCITED. The summary says it’s inspired by Mansfield Park and about the troubles flirting can cause, um HECK YES.

Crash And Burn by Michael Hassan (Unsolicited) – This one is very, very thick, but I am in love with the cover, and then the synopsis makes this book seem like the type that slams right into you.

Shards & Ashes edited by Melissa Marr and Kelley Armstrong (Unsolicited) – I love short stories and a lot of the authors within this anthology, so pumped is an understatement.

Arcadia Burns by Kai Meyer (Unsolicited) – I still need to read Arcadia Awakens. I’ll get there, eventually.

City Of A Thousand Dolls by Miriam Forster (Unsolicited) – AHHHH! AHHH! AHHH! AHHH! AHHH! Overkill?! Anyways, I am so bleeding excited for this fantasy debut. Holy fricken crap! ORPHANS! Assassins! FLIRTING! DEATH!

Mind Games by Kiersten White (Unsolicited) – As a Kiersten White fan girl, I’m ready and SO EXCITED!

Pivot Point by Kasie West (Unsolicited) – The gist of this is that Addison Coleman’s life is a what if, and she can see the results of her choices in the future. It sounds kind of complex and like a cool concept, so again, I am very very excited.

Summer Of The Mariposas by Guadalupe Garcia McCall (Netgalley) – I really enjoyed Under The Mesquite, so when I saw this up on Netgalley, I just had to request. Apparently it is a Mexican retelling of The Odyssey.

What We Saw At Night by Jacquelyn Mitchard (Netgalley) – This is from the new imprint SOHO Teen, and friends, I just love a good mystery and this book is about 3 teens with XP which is an allergy to sunlight and apparently they witness a crime, AND you can see why I requested it.

Velvet by Mary Hooper (Netgalley) – I liked Fallen Grace by Mary Hooper, so when I saw this up on Netgalley, I knew that I needed to read it NOW. Basically this is about an orphan and SPIRITUAL MEDIUMS. Boom. Awesome.

Won:

Reached by Ally Condie – Y’all, I went to a signing last Sunday and ended up winning this drawing where I could choose from a pile of books and of course, it totally MADE my day and I picked out the final book in Condie’s trilogy.

Purchased:

All You Never Wanted by Adele Griffin – signed – I am totally on board to read this, plus I really enjoyed Tighter and this book sounds dramatic and awesome.

The Stone Girl by Alyssa B. Sheinmel – signed – I guess this book is about an eating disorder, and it sounds intense.

Endangered by Eliot Schrefer – signed – So this one just got nominated for the National Book Award under the youth category or whatever it’s called. Either way, it’s about a girl and Bonobos and the Congo and sounds freakin’ awesome.

Every Day by David Levithan – signed – Oh you guys. I cannot wait to read this. It sounds totally amazing and heartbreaking and wonderful.

Mystic City by Theo Lawrence – signed – Political upheaval and magic? OH HECK YES I gladly paid list price for this.

Girl At Sea by Maureen Johnson – So, Oblong Books had this section of YA books for 40% off at the signing and of course I snatched a few up. I picked Girl At Sea, because DUH it’s by Maureen Johnson and somehow I have not read it yet.

The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder – I am always down for contemporary, verse books.

Lips Touch Three Times by Laini Taylor – This won an award and I was kind of in love with Daughter Of Smoke And Bone, and thus felt I needed this book.

Revolver by Marcus Sedgwick – I saw the cover and decided I needed this. I love books with gunslingers.

Stupid Fast by Geoff Herbach (Kindle) – This was the Amazon deal of the day and it won a CYBILS, so of course I dropped some money on it.

Jennifer Crusie bundle (Kindle) – For $9.99 I bought a bundle of four Jennifer Crusie books because lol I was browsing and saw they were re-releasing Manhunting for more money and was like OH NO, I better purchase the bundle before they re-release it for like $30 or whatever. It’s got Strange Bedpersons, Charlie All Night, What The Lady Wants and Getting Rid Of Bradley.

North Of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley (Kindle) – Right now this is $2.99 and it’s a YA contemp about a fractured family and more.

Heat Of Passion by Elle Kennedy (Kindle) – Basically I saw that this was free. Apparently it’s a sexytimes novella.

Sean Griswold’s Head by Lindsey Leavitt (Kindle) – I have already read this, and when I saw it was on sale and that I hadn’t already purchased it, I impulse bought it.

Witch Eyes by Scott Tracey (Kindle) – Although I have a signed copy, this was free on Kindle, so I was like, hey why not!

The Whitefire Crossing by Courtney Schafer (Kindle) – Another FREE book, pointed out to me by Allison at The Allure Of Books. FYI this is no longer free. ALAS. Time waits for no reader.

Under Her Skin by Susan Mallery (Kindle) – At the time of purchase this was $1. Hell, I will try any legitimately published romance author for a $1. This is also no longer $1.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

I (April) signed up for a Readathon, introduced myself, and updated three whole times.

Yesterday, I reviewed the audiobook of Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner and found the story to be good, but the sound effects distracting.

Come August, Come Freedom by Gigi Amateau was a great book about the general Gabriel and the slave rebellion he lead.

Allison reads Born This Way and decides it’s a wonderful read for National Coming Out Day.

It’s too bad this release was so quiet, because I’d love to see The Revolution Of Evelyn Serrano by Sonia Manzano get more attention.

Huzzah! I finally have the dates for the 2012 Penguin Putnam Warehouse Sale!

Unfortunately, I was not enamored with Zom-B by Darren Shan.

OH HAI a book about communism in the Czech Republic, My Own Revolution by Carolyn Marsden.

What is it about verse books that is SO shattering? In which I commend My Book Of Life By Angel by Martine Leavitt for raising awareness of the awful sex trade.

That one time Allison lost her audiobook viriginity to Seduction by Amanda Quick.

Starting up some Halloween coverage with this review of Invisible Inkling: Dangerous Pumpkins by Emily Jenkins.
