Top Ten Bookish People I Would LOVE To Meet

Top Ten Bookish People I Would LOVE To Meet

Hi everyone, it’s Allison!

When April asked if I could take of the reins and do this weeks Top Ten Tuesday I told her that I would try to put something together after I got home from work at 11pm. I thought it would be easy to create a post about bookish people I want to meet. I was wrong! It was so hard for me to figure out who I wanted to meet, and why especially when I kept thinking that I’ve already been so lucky with the experiences I’ve had of meeting bookish people and that I shouldn’t be too greedy. Alas, in the end I was able to pull something together, and split it into two separate sections. Here we go:

Authors

Since 2010 April has dragged me (more than willingly most of the time) to several book events (at the fabulous Oblong Books in Rhinebeck, NY) where I have had the privilege to meet many amazing authors such as Jennifer Donnolly, E. Lockhart, Jessica Martinez, Roseanne Perry, Stasia Ward Kehoe, Gretchen McNeil, Sheela Chari , Lauren Oliver, Kate Ellison, and Kristin Cashore. This year I also attended BEA where I was lucky enough to meet/see a few more amazing authors including Lenore Appelhans, Ruta Sepetys, John Green, Chris Colfer, Lois Lowry, Jane Seymour, Kristi Yamaguchi, and Libba Bray. I consider myself very lucky to have met all these wonderful writers. Are there more that I would love to meet one day? Of course! My list of authors that I love and admire is forever growing and forever changing. Here are a few that I would love to meet if I were ever given the chance:

Juliet Marillier
Why?: This woman is a QUEEN of fantasy witting. I would love to be able to meet her even if it was just to say ‘thank you’ for creating such magical stories. Of course, I’d have to remember how to speak first.

Gina Rosati
Why?: As many of you know, I loved her debut novel Auracle, and I think it would be awesome meet the woman behind the book. Especially after the amount of times I have talked with her on twitter. She’s super nice!

Susan Vaught
Why?: I would really like to ask her how her psychological background influences her work. I think it’s really interesting how she makes the worlds mesh together so well. Also, I would love to tell her in person how much I loved Freaks Like Us.

Markus Zusak
Why?: To be able to discuss The Book Thief with its original creator would be beyond amazing. There are so many questions I would love to ask him. Or well actually…it would just be nice to have a signed copy of the book since I would probably forget how to speak the moment I saw him.

Ann M. Martin
Why?: The Babysitters Club was a HUGE part of my childhood. My younger self would be ecstatic if I ever got to meet its creator and thank her for giving me something to enjoy when I was younger.

Jeanne Bentancout
Why?: She is another author that would make my younger self very happy if I ever got to meet her and thank her for giving me something to enjoy when I was younger. Her series The Pony Pals filled my elementary school years with smiles, laughter, a love for horses, and a fine understanding of the gift of friendship.

Bloggers

I was pretty lucky when I attended BEA 2012 because I was able to meet and/or be introduced to quite a few amazing bloggers.  I’d list them all here but I’m afraid I would accidentally forget someone. Suffice to say that between the fabulous conversations about books and life, the alcohol, the Pinkberry, the trips to the post office, the NYC food, and all the other wonderful BEA-related times, they will always have a special place in my memories and in my heart. I hope to see all of them some day soon! However, that being said there are still some bloggers that I am still really wanted to meet. They include:

Asheley from Into the Hall of Books
Why?: She always leaves the nicest comments on my reviews. Seriously whenever I get an email that says that I have a new comment from her, a big smile appears on my face because I know that I am going to love the comment. I would love to sit down with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, and discuss books and life with her someday!

Allison from The Allure of Books
Why?: I love meeting people who have the same name as me especially when they spell it the same way. Also, she loves the Princess Bride, and seems like a really awesome person, and a good person to discuss books and life with.

Kelsey from Slush Sleuth
Why?: I don’t know what it is but I get the feeling that Kelsey and I would have a really fun time together if we ever met. Also, I’m pretty sure we enjoy a lot of the same movies, and can quote them word for word. Oh, and I think the book conversations would be pretty awesome too!

Rachelia from Bookish Comforts
Why?: I really enjoyed answering her interview questions and seeing her answers to April’s questions. I think we really do have a lot in common and it would be so much fun to able to sit down and talk to her about everything in person one day.

So now that I’ve admitted some of my bookish need-to-meets, who is on your list?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to drop me a link to your Top 10 list!

As always Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke And The Bookish.

  1. I could not agree more about Asheley. That girl leaves THE most thoughtful and insightful comments. I can only hope I get the opportunity to meet her someday. She ROCKS. Plus, she’s a nurse, and those are the best kinds of people 😉 Great list!

  2. OH MY GOSH. Allison!
I’m scrolling down like OHMYGOSH YES JULIET MARILLIER! and OHMYGOSH I’LL HAVE TO TWEET ALLISON AND TELL HER I JUST FINISHED FREAKS LIKE US AND IT *IS* AMAZING! and then I get to the blogger part and WOW. This makes my day.

First of all, I love your reviews! Second of all, you are awesome. I’m so thankful that April introduced you to me thru this blog and I’m getting to know your voice and your reading tastes through what you post up here. And gal, if I ever bring a slice of my Eastern NC southern self up there, I will be so thrilled and excited to sit with you over coffee or wine (or both!) and we can talk about everything. Seriously. I love having you here on this blog. ( <– That is where I talk like this is MY blog.)

I really just want to get in my car and drive up there NOW to meet you. We can invite April too. It would be GREAT. It would.

  3. Awwww!! You are so sweet to include me on your list! I’d love to meet you too, Allison!

  4. I haven’t met any book bloggers yet, so to meet any would be awesome! I mean, to be able to talk about blogging, and books and life – doesn’t get much better than that 🙂

  5. Great list! I was never much into The Babysitter’s Club (a little bit) but my sister adored them so they were a staple at my house too. 😀 Happy Tuesday!

    My TTT.

  6. Right? I wouldn’t be able to like you quite as much if you didn’t spell your name correctly 🙂

Also, you have me dying to read Freaks Like Us….and Ann M. Martin is an AWESOME choice! My goal in life when I was a kid was to introduce myself to her while wearing a Claudia outfit.

If I wasn’t too lazy to do a TTT today, you and April would definitely top the list! We’ll definitely have to make it happen one day…

  7. Ann M Martin and Markus Zusak are at the very top of my list! I read every single Babysitters Club book as a kid and it got my feminist ideals ingrained pretty quickly!

I also probably wouldn’t be able to speak if I met Zusak. Though if I could, I am sure it would be amazing on his end, but I would sound really dumb!

  8. Great list! I have some bloggers I would like to meet yet. There aren’t many around me, so I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting any of them yet. Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday!
    Vyki @ On The Shelf

  9. Because I live so close to the city, I have had a lot of opportunities to see/meet authors that I admire a lot. It’s been so much fun attending these events, and they’ve become even more special because I get to see a lot of book bloggers at them as well! Hopefully, I get the chance to meet you one day 🙂

  10. Aww, thanks Allison for including me in your list of people you’d love to meet – it put a big grin on my face! I think we could talk forever about feminism and books, haha. I loved getting to know you and April more during our interviews and I hope one day I can meet you two 🙂

Also, Ann M. Martin WOULD be awesome to meet!

  11. Ann M. Martin…. right in the childhood.

  12. MARKUS ZUSAK oh my gursh yes.
    What a freaking mastermind.
And a hot one at that.

  13. I loveee this Top Ten! Markus Zusak is phenomenal and I would LOVE to meet him as well! Plus, Juliet Marillier is an incredible author with SO much talent, so really, your picks are fantastic! Wonderful list this week, Allison! 😀
