Top 10 Books On My Fall 2012 TBR Pile

First off, I want to tell you all something totally AWESOME! You know the summer TBR pile Top 10 Tuesday post? Yo, I finished all of the books I listed. FRICK yes. I think I am also going to attempt to make that goal again and read all of the books listed. I debated and struggled over what to put on today’s TBR pile. I mean, I honestly could have made this list all sequels or all debuts or all September books. Instead, I decided to mix it up. Are any of these books on your TBR? Let me know in the comments!

Top 10 Books On My Fall 2012 TBR Pile:

1. Ten by Gretchen McNeil

Ten Gretchen McNeil Book Cover

Why?: I love the original version of this story, And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I am really looking forward to the spin McNeil takes on it. Also? Is it just me or is fall not the perfect time for a pumpkin spice and a scary book?

2. Hidden by Sophie Jordan

Hidden by Sophie Jordan Book Cover

Why? Oh my godddddd you guys! This is the year two of my favorite trilogies end. The Paranormalcy trilogy ended and so now I’ve just got Hidden left and the Firelight trilogy will end. YOU GUYS! I need to know who she chooses and what the deal with the dragons and the dragon hunters is. I AM SO PUMPED.

3. The Twelve by Justin Cronin

The Twelve Justin Cronin Book Cover

Why? Remember that time I spent 2ish days ripping through The Passage? Holy hell you guys I need to know what happens. I AM DESPERATE FOR THE KNOWING. Also? The Passage was nightmare inducing which makes me hope the The Twelve is as well. PLUS PLUS PLUS there is a character in this sequel named APRIL so I am like READ ALL THE PAGES NOW!

4. Shadowfell by Juliet Marillier

Shadowfell Juliet Marillier Book Cover

Why? Juliet Marillier. The end. No, but in all seriousness, I have been enamoured with Marillier’s writing since 11th grade when I stumbled upon Daughter Of The Forest in the school library. I tore through her trilogy and then her other books in like a week. So, to say I am excited about reading her latest book is kind of a huge understatement.

5. Summer And Bird by Katherine Catmull

Summer And Bird Katherine Catmull Book Cover

Summer And Bird

Why? Summer And Bird is about sisters in search of their parents. I love that sort of theme. Also? I am in love with the book cover.

6. Jepp, Who Defied The Stars by Katherine Marsh

Jepp, Who Defied The Stars Katherine Marsh Book Cover

Why? That cover, sigh. I need to buy the finished copy for my shelves. But I digress. I put Jepp, Who Defied The Stars on my list because it’s all about destiny and fate and taking matters into your own hands and I just love reading about acts of courage against a historical back drop. Plus, the title is one of my favorites. Is that weird to love a book solely based upon the title? Or to deeply desire to read it because you like the title?

7. Skylark by Meagan Spooner

Skylark Meagan Spooner Book Cover

Why? I love book set in domes, and Skylark sounds fricken insane in the best possible way. YO! They harvest children! CHILDREN! For magical energy! FRICK YES. I am going to read the hell out of Skylark.

8. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

The Raven Boys Maggie Stiefvater Book Cover

Why? It’s first, I love the cover. Despite being terrified of birds, I really think I am going to love The Raven Boys.  It’s all about death and love and private schools. It sounds a little gothic, but I can see myself reading this in front of the window while it rains or while the leaves fall.

9. Venom by Fiona Paul

Venom Fiona Paul Book Cover

Why? Sexytimes in Venice. Actually, I don’t know if there are sexytimes but that is what the cover leads me to believe, so one can only hope.

10. Meant To Be by Lauren Morrill

Meant To Be Lauren Morrill Book Cover

Why? Both Mitali and Tara at Hobbitsies LOVE this book. Like they talked about it so much during our hanging out at Bryant Park, so of course I plan to read this debut. Apparently, it’s a little bit like Anna And The French Kiss but set in London.

Are any of these books on your TBR? Have you read any of them? Let me know in the comments and be sure to drop me a link to your Top 10 list!

Comments

  1. Love the covers for Hidden and Shadowfell. I am sadly not familiar with these authors but will change that quickly! I was debating putting Summer And Bird on my list as part of the top 10 but it will definitely be read this fall!

  2. I am definitely excited about Ten. And Then There Were None was one of my favorite books as a teen. It will be interesting to see how this book measures up. I am also looking forward to Hidden and Shadowfell.

  3. I just read Firelight and loved it! I need to get caught up so I can read Hidden when it comes out. I was pleasantly surprised by this series. I am also super excited for Venom…..a book that takes place in Venice….definitely on my TBR list.

  4. Our list did not overlap at all today, but like you I struggled with which books to put on mine because my excitement for my fall to-read list is not limited to just ten books. I want to read all of the ones on your list too (looking at you, Justin Cronin!).

Also, how awesome does TEN freaking look? Seriously.

  5. Oh, Shadowfell. How I loved Shadowfell! I too am a huge fan of Juliet Marillier. I am also looking forward to The Raven Boys. 😀 And Ten. And Venom.

    I approve of this list.

  6. I cannot cannot cannot wait to read The Raven Boys. Have an ARC on my Nook. Hope to get to it soon!!

  7. Oh, good choices! The Raven Boys is on my list too, and I’m overdue to review Skylark and Meant to Be looks so freaking sweet, in a hipster sort of way. Thanks for sharing your list! I will be so proud of myself if I finish mine before the ‘winter’ TBR post comes up!

  8. Ten looks great, except the scaredycat in telling me to run away *bolts* Meant To Be looks AMAZING. Anna and the French Kiss, London style? YES PLEASE. Great list, happy reading 🙂

  9. I have The Twelve, Ten and The Raven Boys on my list! I will have to read Jepp, who defied the stars. You are right, the title is awesome! It makes me want to read the book for sure.

    Have a great week!

  10. GAHHHH! You’re killing me April, seriously! So many of these I now want too!

I’ve got a copy of The Twelve on pre-order, that one should be good. Love the title Jepp, Who Defied the Stars – awesome. I have Firelight on my shelf already – what’s the second book called? Didn’t realise it was a trilogy! I loved And Then There Were None (though my old copy has a very different title!!), but I’m not sure how I feel about this retelling. I don’t think I like YA horror much, like with kids actually being murdered.

Will have to look into Skylark, because I love those kinds of stories too – and after reading your comment, I have to recommend one of my favourite books to you, Scatterlings by Isobelle Carmody, which I tend to think of as the original YA inside/outside story featuring domes. Carmody is fantastic at actually delving into themes and incorporating issues and social commentary into her novels, I think you’d love it.

  11. First of all, I’m loving the new layout/skin!

I have a few of these books on my radar, but there are quite a few I haven’t heard of – will definitely be checking them out! And way to go on that Summer TBR list – you rock girl!

  12. Your list rocks! I love Jepp, Who Defied the Stars; the title is gorgeous as is the cover! And Juliet Marriller! Hooray!

  13. Meant to Be! The Raven Boys! (I haven’t read one of Maggie’s books yet. I know *GASP*) and TEN! I’m so excited for those! Seriously awesome books coming out this fall! Great list, April!

  14. First off, sweet new blog look, April. I love it!

Also, I finished Shadowfell recently and it is AWESOME! Marillier can do no wrong. Great list – I’m also super pumped about Skylark & Raven Boys.

  15. So many great books on your list, April! I think I’m most excited for TEN which has been floating around FOREVER in the blogosphere! FINALLY I can get my hands on it! And MEANT TO BE looks pretty awesome, too — I love the cover! It’s so pretty!

    Thanks for sharing!

  16. Good for you for finishing your summer top ten! I think I finished about half but hopefully fall will be better. All of your fall choices look fantastic, and Ten, Venom, and Meant to Be are a few I hope to sneak in as well. And Summer and Bird does have a gorgeous cover. Hope all your fall reads are winners!

  17. An Agatha Christie retelling, you say? That is a very brave thing to attempt. Interesting. And I don’t normally go for the more chick-flicky YA romances, but when one is set in London, I think I’ll have to give it a shot.

  18. TEN!!! I am snagging a copy of that as soon as it hits shelves. SO STOKED. And Raven Boys!! I’m really looking forward to reading that one, it’s going to be amazeballs!!! Awesome list!

    Anna @ Literary Exploration

  19. I have read five of these books, and I’m dying to discuss them all with you. Hurry up! 🙂

  20. Some great books on your list April, that I hadn’t even thought of such as The Raven Boys and Ten. I’ve also heard great things about Meant to Be too and can’t wait to read it!

  21. Great picks! Ten is also on mine. If you haven’t seen the book trailer for Ten yet, you should check it out, very thrilling. Here’s mine: http://whatsontheshelf.wordpress.com/2012/09/04/top-ten-tuesday-21/

  22. HIDDEN! SHADOWFELL! THE RAVEN BOYS! MEANT TO BE! Yes, yes, yes!

  23. So I totally have some of these on my TBR list (not my TTT list) — Ten, Meant To Be, Venom & The Raven Boys BUT some of these others I haven’t heard of and will be checking out. I LOVE the cover for Summer & Bird. Totally adding that to my list thanks to you!

  24. I am ridiculously excited about Meant to Be. I can’t even put it into words. I just hope my expectations aren’t too high.

  25. I need to add each of these to my list to read – I think only two are already on my list! (I can’t wait to read The Raven Boys… but I didn’t request it because I don’t have the time to read and review before it’s released. I did however pre-order it!!)

  26. Great pick. I want almost all of these. Meant to Be sounds like a lot of fun.

  27. Meant to Be and The Raven Boys made my list this week as well and I really enjoyed Shadowfell, although it’s not as good as Marillier’s other work. Still, the romance in it is just gorgeous, so I hope you enjoy all your reads this fall! 🙂

  28. Great list. I have a few of the same on my list.

  29. Great list! I can’t wait to get to Justin Cronin’s new one! 😀
    My TTT

  30. I have Ten and Hidden on my list too! I really hope Ten is good since I love And Then There Were None SO MUCH!

  31. It’s great to hear that you enjoyed the Agatha Christie version of TEN’s story. I’d been thinking whether or not I should check it out prior to reading Ten and now I have some reassurance that it’s good 😀

The Raven Boys! I’m currently reading that now and there haven’t been too many instances with actual birds (YET), so I think you’ll be okay, haha.

  32. I love your list! i also had skylark on mine! And I’m kind of intrigued by Ten. I read her book Possess, and maybe I’ll read this one.

  33. Great Selection!
I wonder if I should try to read Shadowfell too – I love Daughter of the Forest but I was let down by the following books, and I really liked Heart’s Blood .

  34. Wow…I am so incredibly jealous that you finished your summer tbr list! I only got through 4 haha. Hopefully you’ll be just as successful with these awesome picks though. I absolutely adore Juliet Marillier as well and am looking forward to reading Venom and The Raven Boys.

  35. I love your list! I almost put Venom on mine too but I held back for some reason. I’m really excited for it though. Also, if you get a physical copy of Shadowfell, I want it when you’re done. That is all. <3

  36. Summer and Bird looks fantastic! That cover is just gorgeous.

  37. 1, 3, 5, and 7 (you almost got all the odd numbers!) are all on my TBR, especially The Twelve! I bet some of the others will work there way in their too (like Juliet Marillier who I’ve heard you rave about before!). I also can’t believe that I left Ten off my Top Ten Tuesday list. I’m so excited for that one!

  38. I want to read most of these two but especially Hidden! I preordered it back in February and am eagerly awaiting its delivery next week 🙂

  39. We’re like list twins! Kinda… I’m so excited to read Ten and Meant to Be! They sound so great. I can’t wait to see what you think of The Raven Boys! I loved it.

  40. Ten, Skylark & Meant to Be are all definitely books that I’m looking forward to! 🙂

  41. I have Venom on my TBR list too! I haven’t heard of most of these books, but I will definitely be adding to my wishlist now. Thanks for sharing!

  42. Thankd for including VENOM. Heh, I do like me some sexytimes…

Also, I am dying for TEN and MEANT TO BE 🙂

  43. Also, thanks for not making me take the robot test! #WritingMachine #PartRobot

  44. Really really really liked The Raven Boys. Can’t wait for the follow up. And Justin Cronin? Anxiously awaiting that one! Mentally clearing space for that giant read feast!

I haven’t read Juliet Marillier but by golly I may have to check her out. Lots of fans out there!
