In My Mailbox (83) / Stacking The Shelves (4)

Even though I only worked four days this week, I won’t lie, it kind of felt like the longest week of my life. At one point I thought my eyes were going to fall out from all the data I had to enter. Ah well, you can’t win every single week. ANYWAYS, my mailbox and my kindle definitely made up for some LONG and overwhelming days. ALSO, Tuesday was my five year anniversary with Tony and even though we were totally boring old people and didn’t do anything to celebrate it is always nice to know someone loves me enough to put up with my giant book piles, blogging addiction and HOW DOES MY HAIR LOOK TELL ME OR ELSE personality for that long. Also, the picture of the new books is at THE BOTTOM!

Tony And I

5 Years Of Being Too Legit To Quit

Purchased:

Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis (Kindle) – Look, this book is only $0.99 and I feel I could use some adult contemporary in my life. Plus a few bloggers I trust are really into those Lucky Harbor books.

And Only To Deceive by Tasha Alexander (Kindle) – At $1.99 with the weight of Allison at The Allure Of Books’s recommendation behind it, I totally impulse purchased this historical mystery!

Food, Girls, And Other Things I Can’t Have by Allen Zadoff (Kindle) – I have read all of Zadoff’s books except for this one, so you guys I needed to purchase it, especially at $2.99.

Won In A Contest:

What Happened To Goodbye by Sarah Dessen audiobook – So, I do have a copy of this book signed, but I still haven’t read it yet. Anyways, I won this because I RTed @PenguinClass and you guys winning feels awesome. After I finish listening to this legit audiobook, I plan on finding it a nice home with either the library or a classroom.

For Review:

Sirens by Janet Fox (Netgalley) – That loud WHOOPING noise? Yeah that was me when I got that approval for this book. You guys, freakin the 1920s. That is all I need to say, you don’t really need a longer explanation, I hope.

Splintered by AG Howard (Netgalley) – What is this?! I cannot even. An Alice In Wonderland retelling? SIGN ME UP RIGHT THIS MINUTE. My excitement for this book knows no bounds.

Mira’s Diary: Lost In Paris by Marissa Moss (Netgalley for blog tour) – Another book that I saw buzzed at BEA, so I am excited to be included on the blog tour!

Scary School: Monsters On The March by Derek The Ghost (Unsolicited) – I am pretty sure Derek The Ghost is not the author’s real name, but omg. There are drawings every other page and this book came right in the nick of time for Halloween.

Coraline by Neil Gaiman (Unsolicited) – I’ve actually already read this wayyyyy back when during my first ever 24 hour readathon. Like this was a book I reviewed in 2009, I think. Anyways, it’s super exciting to get it in the mail!

Gravediggers: Mountain Of Bones by Christopher Krovatin (Unsolicited) –  Ohhhh hey zombies on the front cover, how YOU doing? Friends, I am pumped to get freaked out by middle grade horror.

The Whispering House by Rebecca Wade (Unsolicited) – Basically this one is about a house with a ghost named Maisie and a girl named Hannah who moves in and GO LOOK AT THE COVER AND SEE WHY I AM EXCITED.

Invisible Inkling: Dangerous Pumpkins by Emily Jenkins with illustrations by Harry Bliss (Unsolicited) – Another book full of illustrations and pumpkin excitement? BE STILL MY HEART.

Always October by Bruce Coville (Unsolicited) – Heck yes. Monsters and forces of light vs. evil and siblings. Plus it looks like a gremlin on the cover. I just need to build a fort of blankets and read this.

The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd (Unsolicited) – OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. *hyperventilates* OMG OMG OMG. YOU GUYS! I feel so lucky to have gotten this early. Okay, so I was at the Harper Teen party where they revealed the cover and explained the process to us at BEA, but honestly like I don’t care as much about the cover as I do about the fact that it’s inspired by The Island Of Dr. Moreau and I will always brake for gruesome experiments, ALWAYS.

Asunder by Jodi Meadows (Unsolicited) – That awkward moment where I decide I need to read Incarnate this upcoming week, because I love the cover of Asunder and feel like I am missing out.

Nobody But Us by Kristin Halbrook (Unsolicited) – The blurb says it’s Bonnie And Clyde meets If I Stay, I’m not sure I can handle ALL OF THE FEELS, but I’ll try.

Shadows In The Silence by Courtney Allison Moulton (Unsolicited) – Holy wow, okay so I LOVED Angelfire, but I am one of those people I hate, because I have the very last book in the trilogy, but have not not read the second book, Wings Of The Wicked. I will fix that I swear, because this book fills me with guilt, just looking at it.

Ravage by Jeff Sampson (Unsolicited) – Well, this is the third of the Deviants trilogy and I actually read and reviewed the first two, but was kind of MEH on the second book, but you guys, maybe this book will redeem the second and I will love it. Open mind, y’all.

In My Mailbox Books 83

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

Yesterday, I reviewed the audiobook of On The Wings Of Heroes by Richard Peck and am not entirely in love.

Allison has been neglecting her Nook and totally needs your help deciding what to read next.

I pretty much flail around and turn into a pool of incomprehensible fangirling whilst trying to explain my love of Carnival Of Souls by Melissa Marr.

One of the best parts of reading is all the thoughts you end up having. I know that sentence makes me sound like someone who does not think. It’s cool, Allison recounts the Top Ten Books that REALLY make her think.

We didn’t completely fail at Book Blogger Appreciation Week. We DID get in an awesome interview with Rachelia of Bookish Comforts, who is totally the DEAL y’all.

It’s been awhile since I’ve read Juliet Marillier, but my excitement over Shadowfell knows no bounds.

Y’all better recognize these three awesome blogs.

London and orphans and puppets and magic? It’s all in Splendors And Glooms by Laura Amy Schlitz.

Finally, if you get the chance, you should always make sure you’ve got some pleasure reading on your Kindle. Here’s a few on the cheap.

  1. Happy anniversary!! So much love! *throws confetti*

Also love photo of books. I love that you fanned them out like steps. I’m dorky enough to focus on something like that.

ALSO also… you changed your theme up! I haven’t been blog reading for a long time and totes missed when this happened. I like! Clean and cool and classy! Just like you, April dahlink!

  2. Such awesome books! And you two are totally adorable. Happy five years!

  3. The Madman’s Daughter!!! I’m excited for you. It looks awesome! 🙂

    Enjoy all your reads!

PS — And Coraline is AWESOME. That’s a book I’ve read TONS of times!

    <a href="http://www.paigebradish1996.blogspot.com/2012/09/in-my-mailbox-e-book-edition-4-weekly.html"My IMM =D

  6. Nice haul this week! I received a copy of the first Scary School earlier this year. I didn’t realize there was a second one. The first one had a “Sideways Stories from Wayside School” vibe to it.

I have found that short weeks always find a way to drag on longer than 5-day work weeks that’s why I tend to dread them.

  7. Congrats on your anniversary! I just had my 6th with my bf and like you, we don’t really do anything but it still means a lot 🙂

And nice haul! Nobody But Us is one I’ve been waiting on ever since I saw the cover, I can’t wait for your review!

  8. Happy Anniversary! You guys look so happy!

  9. Wow … you got a bumper crop of books this week. 🙂 Happy anniversary! You guys are a gorgeous couple.

  10. I had almost the exact same week!

  11. The pic of you and Tony is adorable. Congrats on 5 years. I will always remember when your anniversary is now because Brian and I celebrated ours on Thursday. :o) We didn’t do anything special either so don’t feel bad.

Yay for the Dessen Audio book. Love her stuff! 🙂

  12. Happy Anniversary!
I’m quite jealous of you getting Splintered, it sounds really awesome. I was thinking about request Sirens but I’ve never read anything set in the 20’s so I’m kind of afraid I might not like it. I hope you enjoy your books and happy reading!

    My Sunday Post

  13. Nobody but Us looks soooo good. 🙂 Enjoy, pretty lady!

  14. I SO want to read Splintered it looks so awesome!

  15. Awesome books this week. CONGRATULATIONS to your 5 years!!! That is so awesome. I hope you had a relaxing weekend, and were able to celebrate. 🙂 Have a fabulous Sunday.

  16. Aww you guys look so cute together! Happy Anniversary! 😀 Your hair looks great and I think you’re wearing a pretty dress (from what I could see, which seems like gray silk or satin?)

  17. Happy Anniversary!

All of these books look great…I am especially interested in the new Dessen. I have read and loved most of her books, but haven’t gotten around to her latest. I’ll keep my eye out for your review. Happy reading!

  18. Look at all that Middle Grade! Pitter pat goes my heart.

Also, HELL YEAH to you and T for 5 years! Too legit to quit. I love that and also you.

  19. Congrats on the anniversary!

I also haven’t yet read Wings of the Wicked and now have the third book. I’m gonna have to get them read soon.

And yes, read Incarnate! It’s awesome.

  20. Congrats on your anniversary! Very cute picture of the two of you. Also, jealous of all of your books that you have received. I can’t wait to check out your reviews on them!

  21. Big congrats on your five years, April!! Also, with every post, you’ve got me one step closer to actually listening to audiobooks. I hope you enjoy your books. 😀

P.S. Totally loving the circular display pics in the comments and your layout! Pink!

  22. Congratulations! You guys look adorable together!!

Man, I am LEGIT jealous over The Madman’s Daughter and Nobody But Us. They look AMAZING.

  23. Congrats on 5 years, April! Such a sweet photo.

I liked the What Happened to Goodbye audiobook – cheers on the win! Splintered and Sirens look fantastic and I can’t wait to hear what you think.

Hope this is a better week for you & that you love all your new books!

  24. Happy anniversary!

You got some great books this week! I’ve been meaning to read Incarnate, hopefully I do before Asunder comes out!

    Amber Elise @ Du Livre

  25. I’m a bit slow on the uptake, but I did notice the Halloween theme about halfway down the list! (We don’t “do” Halloween in Oz so I always forget about it until everyone put’s decorations on their lawns.)

Your hair looks lovely and he looks like a keeper. 🙂

  26. Gosh, so many shiny new ARCs! 🙂 First of all, congratulations on your Five Year Anniversary! 😀 Your hair looks gorgeous, April, so no worries! 😉 I actually haven’t read any of the books you picked up this week although the movie Coraline was quite creepy (then again, I saw it in French for class, so that might have had something to do with it), but I can’t wait to see what you think of all your new novels! I wasn’t a big fan of Incarnate and I don’t even remember finishing it unfortunately, but I hope you have more luck with it than I did! Happy Reading! 😀

  27. Looking forward to seeing what you think of that Allen Zadoff book. I really loved My Life at the Theatre and Other Tragedies. Is that what it’s called or did I mess it up? Anyway, I just remember really loving the voice in that book. But I was hesitant to read the one you got. So I will let you take one for the team. Heh.

Congratulations on 5 years with Tony. I know what that’s like, having someone who is willing to put up with your shit. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I’m all that easy to love. Mine does a great job of it also. It helps that he is so easy going that he really doesn’t get all bent out of shape over my various neuroses. LOL.

  28. Aww, congrats on five years!!! That’s fantastic.

I got Splintered from Netgalley as well, and am really excited to read it. I forgot to add it to my IMM post, though. I always forget about the Netgalley books.

I’ve been seeing those MG Halloween books on lots of IMM posts, today, and I have to say that I am NOT ready for Halloween. And more importantly, I am not read for winter. I can never enjoy autumn, because I am always stressing about winter and all that snow. Of course, if we have another winter like last year, I might not have anything to worry about. But we never know! I know Western NY gets lots of snow, too. Do you ever stress about it when fall comes around? See I’m stressing about winter weather already, and it is beautiful and sunny out today with a high temp of 68 degrees.

Anyway, have fun with all your books, and hopefully this work week won’t be so exhausting. Happy reading 🙂

  29. Oooh, goodies! And happy anniversary, girly! The boys who put up with us and our book hoarding ways are really the best.

Oooh, so Sirens looks awesome, are the books in Janet Fox’s series all like companion novels? I’ve had Faithful on my TBR for a while, but haven’t actually picked it up yet. Excited to see what you think!

Also really hoping The Madman’s Daughter turns out to be awesome. And Splintered for that matter. I actually kind of hate (okay, I really hate) Alice in Wonderland, so I’m not overly excited, but I love to be proven wrong.

  30. Awwwww, you guys look freaking adorbs!

Also, so much want for The Madman’s Daughter. Island of Dr. Moreau retelling. Hell to the YES!

Very curious to see how you feel about Incarnate. It’s interesting, but… had some issues. Also, then I can read your Asunder review, since I’m not a hundred percent sure I want to read it.
