Secret Society Girl Diana Peterfreund Book Review

As of this juncture, I am pretty sure I will love anything Diana Peterfreund writes. Seriously, my life was totally missing something without Secret Society Girl, the first of Diana Peterfreund’s Ivy League series. GUYS! There is college! Secret societies! Feminism! A spirited, smart mouthed main character! This is THE book for me, I can’t even articulate my love.

Secret Society Girl Diana Peterfreund Book Cover

Secret Society Girl

At prestigious Eli College (a fictional Ivy), campus is dotted with secret societies.  Getting in pads your resume and introduces you to a super wide network, so it’s kind of a big deal to join one of these Secret Societies. The most elite of these societies is Rose And Grave who decide to tap junior Amy Haskel for unknown reasons. Amy as well as a few other women are the first females to ever be tapped for Rose And Grave. Controversy ensues and it’s up to Amy and her pledge class to find a solution.

Y’all, I cannot. Amy’s my ideal character and it’s super hard for me to describe without dancing from foot to foot to hereby confess my love for her. She is brainy with a smart mouth. She doesn’t let anyone walk all over her. She gets some action! Amy has a strong friendship with her roommate Lydia and doesn’t drop the relationship for whatever else comes along, I admire that.

I am also glad that Diana Peterfreund tackles friends with benefits in Secret Society Girl. Hasn’t everyone had one of those? Yet I don’t read about them often. Diana Peterfreund’s portrayal of when things get awkward and when one person wants to take it to relationship status reads as very accurate and authentic. Although, to be perfectly honest, I was hoping that Amy would hook up with another character.

After finishing Secret Society Girl, when I got home, I rushed out and bought the kindle version of the next book, Under The Rose. Y’all, I am so pumped up to read the hell out of this series. Yes, it’s a little older, but if you want New Adult that’s kind of light, CHECK THIS BOOK OUT. It’s utterly superb and deserves way more readers.

Disclosure: Borrowed from local library.
