In My Mailbox (80)/ Stacking The Shelves (1)

While last week was a cluster of crazy, this week was a little bit more calm. I had wedding to attend yesterday, but luckily it’s only 45 minutes (40 if you drive like I do) away. Friday night I did not have to go anywhere or do anything, so I got my hair done which lends a perfect amount of time for reading while the hair dye sinks in, plus it was super nice to come home afterward with good hair and say OH I just got my hair done, I can’t do the shred, because I don’t want to ruin my hair so I’m just going to lay in bed reading. PERFECT EXCUSE my friends. I ended up finishing The Crown Of Embers by Rae Carson and holy wow you guys I cannot wait to jazz hands all over it with you it is THAT GOOD OMG. And so, pre-wedding and all day tomorrow I will be reading books that I am on blog tours for, which sounds like a complaint, but really I am so excited about these books, I would not agree to be on the tours otherwise. OH OH and if you are tired of my prattling and just came to find out the books I got, that’s cool, that’s the whole point of In My Mailbox AND okay, I decided I want to participate in Stacking The Shelves because the whole point of these memes is to meet more people and damn it I want to KNOW more people! If you hate me for this, please let me know in the comments!

Stacking The Shelves IMM Collage

Library:

If We Kiss by Rachel Vail – Two weeks ago, I got Kiss Me Again by the same author as an unsolicited book in the mail. Y’all, I love contemporaries, I also love books that look like they will take me a very short amount of time to read, so of course I decided I can’t read Kiss Me Again, which is a sequel without reading If We Kiss, big yay for my library being well stacked and having it!

Won:

Drain You by M. Beth Bloom – I totally was screwing around on twitter and Epic Reads was having this contest and I was like, might as well tweet at them because the question was about the 90s which was when I grew up. Who knew that missing Boy Meets World would earn me a free, awesome sounding book? OH and Drain You is pretty much about this girl, Quinlan in the 90s who falls for this guy who has some evil baggage. It sounds totally hilarious from the official summary, thus I am pumped to read the heck out of it.

For Review:

Return To Willow Lake by Susan Wiggs (Unsolicited) – You guys! This book came with the most wonderful smelling potpourri! Ah! Okay so basically it’s about this woman who lives in the City who ends up going back home to her Catskills town of Avalon because of family medical trouble. It sounds dramatic and awesome. Allison reviewed a Susan Wiggs book earlier, so perhaps she will be the one to review this.

Malcolm At Midnight by WH Beck (Vine) – I will always love books about talking animals, always and forever. This is a middle grade book about class pets and what they do after everyone has gone home. Malcolm is a rat, and no one likes rats, so he pretends to be a mouse! And there’s like a mystery and EVERY THING ahhhh AND pictures!

The Twelve by Justin Cronin (Vine) – Does anybody else feel the intense desire to make out with a book that you are so pumped about? (Sidebar: I am being euphemistic, I totally mack on people, not objects) Anyways, I am beyond excited about the sequel to The Passage and plan on getting full immersed in this within the next few weeks.

Fair Game by Taylor Keating (Unsolicited) – I have no idea what this is about, but there is a shirtless dude with awful hair holding a sword, so I suppose I’m down to read this. I guess it’s the third in a series I’ve never read. So, while this sounds interesting, it’s not reading priority number one at the moment.

Purchased:

Toll-Gate by Georgette Heyer – At the time I bought this, it was $2.24, so I was like okay at that price if I pass it up, I would be super silly because what if it is NEVER that cheap again. I know, I know. Irrational thought process. Also, my friends were all like THIS BOOK YO IT IS GOOD.

Midnight In Austenland by Shannon Hale – Okay this book was also on sale briefly for $1.99 down from like $10 so duh I threw my money down on that. Plus, Shannon Hale is pretty solid author, I liked all one book(s) I’ve read by her.

Unknown Ajax by Georgette Heyer – Okay, I think this is like part of a series of Heyer books, I don’t remember though. I impulse-purchased this.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

I flailed all over about awardwinning books and reviewed the audiobook of The View From Saturday by EL Konigsburg.

I truly confess, the audiobook version of The True Confessions Of Charlotte Doyle by Avi is awful, but the story despite being unrealistic is totally engaging.

It’s pretty much impossible to pick the Top Ten Books I’ve Read During My Tenure As A Book Blogger.

Allison finally gets to review a book with sexytimes, check her review of One Perfect Rose by Mary Jo Putney!

Now that Allison has finished One Perfect Rose she needs help in deciding what to read next.

In which I desperately want a fictional creature of my very own, or a fangirling of Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff.

I got my middle grade fix with The Secrets Of Shakespeare’s Grave by Deron R. Hicks.

Finally, Claire Legrand drops by and discusses The Music Of Cavendish AND you can win a copy! Holla!

  1. BAHAHA your mailbox looks so grown up this week! You know, with the exception of the talking mouse, but whatevs. Can’t wait to see what you think about Drain You – I keep seeing it all over Goodreads and for whatever reason I just haven’t gotten it yet!

    • Also, totally understand your decision to participate in Stacking the Shelves as well as IMM. I love finding new blogs! I personally still don’t participate in STS, but sometimes I lurk to see if any new blogs pop out at me.

  2. Just finished Return to Willow Lake — an enjoyable romance. Also VERY EXCITED about The Twelve! I want one! Enjoy your books and thanks for visiting.

  3. AWESOME haul! Lots of great books this week. I hope you enjoy them!

  4. Awesome books, April! I love the extra reading time when I’m getting my hair done too. Hope The Twelve totally meets your expectations, and I’m looking forward to hearing what you think of Drain You. The 90s theme of that book got my attention too. So glad you loved Crown of Embers – yay!

  5. Wow – your books sound great – you’ve given me a few ideas about my next purchase!

  6. Bwhahaha, dude, I am always down to read something with a shirtless dude with bad hair holding a sword. If that doesn’t describe like 1/4 of the books I read right there, I don’t know what does (the percent would be much higher if we included chicks with bad hair holding swords). I don’t know Fair Game either other than that it’s not the Patricia Briggs Fair Game, and so likely disappointing.

Also yay for good hair and the end of wedding season in sight!

  7. Drain You looks super good!! And I’ve heard awesome things about The Twelve.

Yay for hair dyeing! I need to do that one of these days …

Enjoy all your book tour books! 🙂

  8. Oooh The Twelve! I was surprised at how much I really enjoyed The Passage and ever since I finished, I’ve been insanely curious about The Twelve!! That will be another long endeavor, but totally worth it!

  9. You will definitely be busy! Drain You and If We Kiss both sound amazing. Congrats on the win.

  11. So jealous that you got to read Crown of Embers early. I pre-ordered Crown of Embers, so it will come soon. Nice haul. You got a nice diversity of books i see this week.

  12. Happy Sunday! I just finished reading Return to Willow Lake… I reallllllllly want you to review it. haha. And funny, I have to dye my hair in the worst way and was thinking how it’s good reading time because I’m so impatient and MUST KEEP BUSY.

Speaking of books about animals… have you looked into Endangered? It comes out in the fall from Scholastic. Just finished it Friday and it was such a moving story.

    Have a great week!

  13. OMG I SO HATE YOU.

JUST KIDDING <3 Enjoy all you grown up books! <3

  14. Nice haul, chickie! Drain You sounds really good I love that cover!

  15. Woot woot! I love coming to your blog because it’s GUARANTEED that I’ll find more books I’ve never heard of to add to my TBR. I have to look up like 90% of them on goodreads right now. April, the way you destroy my TBR list. Haha!

Also, totally cool for you to participate in both memes. Meeting people is the best. 🙂

  16. You have a pretty good haul there too, thanks for stopping by my post for Stacking the Shelves. I was also psyched to win the signed Divergent book, was pretty awesome.

  18. I would have totally done the same thing if I’d gotten my hair done 😉 Glad you got some reading in!

  19. I’m so jealous that you got If We Kiss! It looks so awesome I can’t wait to check out the series. I hope you enjoy everything =)

  20. THE TWELVE. I have not seen Mike so excited for a book since…well, never. Which excites me because I am all for the side-by-side reading in bed like grown-ups.

I am excited about it too. It’s just super cute that he’s so excited about it. Haha.

  21. I’m supposed to have a copy of Malcolm at Midnight coming to me, and I really do hope it arrives (you never know with giveaways), because zomg cuteness.

I don’t generally make out with books I’m super excited about, but I do often stroke them when I get them.

Midnight in Austenland is fun. I liked it better than the first one.
