In My Mailbox (79)

I feel like I need to take a nice and long breather, friends. This past week has been insanely busy, from Bout of Books, to work things, to driving 5ish hours one way for a wedding! I’m kind of pumped that I have nothing to do today, Sunday, besides read and blog. ALSO! My physical mailbox has been super calm this week, but my Kindle has been getting A LOT of action. 😉 In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren.

Such Wicked Intent Audiobook

For Review:

Such Wicked Intent by Kenneth Oppel audiobook (Unsolicited) – So, this came in my mail unsolicited from Brilliance Audio and I’m a little sad because there was no press release so I have no idea who to email the review to after I listen (this will be my audio after I finish The True Confessions Of Charlotte Doyle by Avi). I was super excited to get Such Wicked Intent as a surprise audiobook because I really enjoyed This Dark Endeavor, granted I read that as a physical book, but still NO LESS EXCITEMENT!

Purchased:

Conqueror by Georgette Heyer ($2.99 for Kindle) – Okay, so of all the Georgette Heyer books on sale, this was the very first one I bought, mainly because I love Medieval history and it’s about William the Conqueror, therefore it was an instabuy after reading all of the Heyer descriptions.

In The Shadow Of The Lamp by Susanne Dunlap ($1.99 for Kindle) - In The Shadow Of The Lamp is historical fiction about nursing, the Crimean War AND has Florence Nightingale as one of the supporting characters. HECK YES I bought this instantly when I was the $1.99 price tag, plus it’s published by Bloomsbury!

Angelfall by Susan Ee ($2.99 for Kindle) – This book has a TON of good reviews, I saw another blogger had purchased it, so being curious I purchased it for myself as well. 🙂

When Calls The Heart by Janette Oke (FREE on Kindle) – LOL, okay so I am not at all a Christian, but this was free and when I went to Bible camp as a kid one of my bunkmates was really into Janette Oke, so that kind of stuck with me, so I was like for free I will give her a chance so long as it doesn’t get super preachy or anything.

Regency Buck by Georgette Heyer ($2.99 on Kindle) – According to twitter, this is a collective Heyer favorite, and well, with the sale prices, I had to snap it up.

Frederica by Georgette Heyer ($2.99 on Kindle) – I read a lot of Heyer reviews because I don’t have the funds to buy all 52 books at $2.99 each, so in my research Frederica seemed to be well received.

These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer ($2.99 on Kindle) – This one was said to be melodramatic and every once in awhile I just want dramarama in the books I read.

Sylvester: or The Wicked Uncle by Georgette Heyer ($2.99 on Kindle) – The premise of Sylvester makes me laugh, apparently there’s this woman who is on the shelf and she writes romance novels and okay, there’s this guy who is searching for a wife and he’s exactly like the villain in her romance novels. AND this is a regency. So, yes, instant buy.

The Marriage Bargain by Jennifer Probst ($2.99 on Kindle) – So, I was emailed by the publicist for The Marriage Bargain and well, the book sounds good to me and I want to read it, but without pressure or anything, so for $2.99, I just bought it. Small price to pay, I think.

The Penniless Peer by Barbara Cartland (Free on Kindle) – It was free, I’ve been curious about Cartland, therefore I snapped this one up.

The Inconvenient Duchess by Christine Merrill (Free On Kindle) – Free Harlequin Regency Romance whoop whoop. Dude, even though my kindle is so heavy with files it’s practically exploding I needed to buy this. NEEDED it.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

I let you all know the phrases that attract my attention in my review of The Treachery Of Beautiful Things by Ruth Frances Long.

Not sure where to start with middle grade? I raved all about The Boneshaker by Kate Milford here.

My arms are totally flailing over this Kindle sale of Georgette Heyer books. Tomorrow is the last day to snap up Heyer books at low prices!

So, I joined Bout Of Books and made great progress for the first days of it, but did not read at all Friday or Saturday.

You know how a book can have such a cool premise, but then you end up just not connecting with it? Yeah that happened to me with Between You And Me by Marisa Calin.

Two meh reviews in one week? Sigh. In which I am disappointed in The Lost Code by Kevin Emerson.

Oh, but Friday is a charm! Although Good Books And Good Wine was down because MySQL was being moved to a new server, I did schedule a review of Since You Left Me by Allen Zadoff, a book which totally shines and is hilarious.

  1. ANGELFALL! YESSS! Gosh, Angelfall is SO good, April! You’re going to loveee it! It’s one of my favorite books of all time, so I can’t wait to see what you think of it! Happy Reading! 😀

  2. Let me put in a quick plug for Devil’s Cub by Heyer. It is my favorite and, if you read These Old Shades which is about the Devil’s parents, you are going to want to read this one too. I think Mary Challoner is one of Heyer’s best heroines.

I bought a copy of Angelfall a while ago because of the good things I heard about it. I haven’t found time to read it yet though.

My new books posts are here and here. Happy reading!

  3. So even though my bestie Monkey (Sassymonkey Reads) has been a Heyer fan for ever and ever and ever (Amen), I have never read her. However, I am now super eager to see what you think of her novels because I have been curious, just not enough to sneak over into the historical fiction genre. If you also love her, then I might take this as a sign that I should try Heyer out. 😉

I DID get This Dark Endeavour on my ereader last month. Then promptly forgot about it. Go, me! Maybe that’s what I’ll read next. Hmm.

  4. So I just bought Angelfall because OMG IT SOUNDS AMAZING. It’s incredible to me that with all the attention I pay to books–YA specifically–I still manage to come across books after the fact that I missed. But this one sounds fantastic. Holla for Kindle cheapies!

  5. You’ve got some awesome Kindle deals…can’t got wrong with those prices. I’ll keep my eye out for your review of Angelfall- definitely am curious. I also loved Charlotte Doyle…I taught that book a few years ago to my 6th graders and they loved it! Enjoy all your books and I hope you had a great time at Jamie’s wedding.

  6. I’m so jealous of your Such Wicked Intent audiobook!!!! I loved the first one in that series!

    Have fun reading. 🙂

  7. I’ve definitely heard amazing raves for Angelfall, too! I was able to grab a copy at ALA…so excited to read it! I’ll be picking up a copy of Treachery of Beautiful Things today after reading your review—so thanks for recommending it! 😀

  8. I’ve got the “Marriage Bargain” waiting on my Kindle to be read! 🙂

    Looks great!
