In My Mailbox (78)

I feel like I have been the worst book blogger ever this week. I’ve only posted a handful of days and instead of reading I’ve just been watching re-runs of The Office. Friends, I was pretty ill Monday and Tuesday and for me, the best cure is laying in bed watching Jim prank Dwight. I did manage to write a sparse amount of reviews and posts, but nothing close to my normal amount. Do you guys ever get disappointed in yourself when you find yourself slacking on the blog? I’m not sure if that’s healthy or not, but I do take this whole reading and writing about books on the internet thing seriously.

Anyways, In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren and we write about the books we obtained during the week. I’m not sure how to characterize this week, except to say that it was nice and average. Not too many books, but also it’s not like my mailbox was barren either.

Nevermore Book Stack IMM 78

Purchased:

Nevermore by Kelly Creagh – I actually reviewed this way back in the day and it was one of the first ARCs I ever requested. I fell in love with the story of Isobel and Varen. Now that Enshadowed is out in like 2 weeks, I decided to order a hardcover of Nevermore for my shelves because I have a lot of books that I am blasé towards so I figure I can make a little room for a book that I absolutely love and also support the author in the process. I also pre-ordered Enshadowed and cannot wait until that is in my hands.

Dark House by Karina Halle (Kindle) – This book was free, it still is free as of 8/11/2012 3:00 PM EST when I went to look. Someone tweeted it and I saw that had praise from Forever Young Adult, so of course I needed to spend big dollars on it. Anyways, this is like YA horror, which I am so totally down for.

Lord And Lady Spy by Shana Galen (Kindle) – Another inexpensive romance book! Yay! Okay so this one is supposed to be like Mr. And Mrs. Smith and I am so freakin pumped to read it. Especially at the low, low price of $1.99. Romance plus spies, BOOM I’m there.

For Review:

Alice Bliss by Laura Harrington (Blog Tour) – Alice Bliss is about a teenage girl whose dad is deployed to Iraq. Further, the girl lives in upstate NY, so I feel a sort of kinship with her. When I was asked if I wanted to be on this tour, I pretty much jumped at the chance and am beyond pumped to read this book. I love reading about people involved with the military and the gamut of emotions involved. I think this will be no different.

Quarantine: The Loners by Lex Thomas (Blog Tour) – LORD OF THE FLIES BUT IN HIGH SCHOOL. Two words: FUCK YES. Basically in this book the kids get a disease that makes them deadly to olds like me. I legit am excited about reading this BECAUSE I LOVE DISEASES AND SURVIVAL AHHHHH. Yeah I’m totally flapping my arms with excitement right now.

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore (Unsolicited) – So, I read and reviewed this and was very kanyeshrug about it. Then that whole scandal broke with whatshisface James Frey so I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this.

The Power Of Six by Pittacus Lore (Unsolicited) – Well, the letter that came inside the package is kind of convincing so I think I’ll give The Power Of Six a chance, and if I don’t like it, I am sure there are readers out there who would be more than happy to take these books off my hands. πŸ™‚

The Rise Of Nine by Pittacus Lore (Unsolicited) See above.

Kiss Me Again by Rachel Vail (Unsolicited) – OOOOOO contemporary! And it’s so short and sparse. After opening the package today, I put a hold on the first book, If We Kiss, because Kiss Me Again is a sequel. Yay!

  1. I’m glad you finally have NEVERMORE! I cannot wait for ENSHADOWED, I want to get a copy as soon as its out. Happy reading, April!

  2. Ahahaha I love Jim & Dwight! Also, I have not heard of that contemporary and can’t wait to see what you think of the first book/the sequel because I love the name, hah!

    I’m glad you’re feeling better!

  3. Awesome books! I’ve heard good things about the Pittacus Lore books … are they somehow related to the James Frey thing??

I think it’s okay to slack once in a while … I’ve been a terrible reader this week, but have done lots of bloggy things. I know one of these days I’m just going to need a little break from everything before I start to hate my computer, WordPress, my library, and the whole shebang.

Enjoy all your reading! (Oh, and watching Jim prank Dwight is indeed time well spent!)

  4. Watching Jim prank Dwight is the cure for everything! I hope you have a better blogging week next week. And yes, I certainly feel guilty when I slack…even if it’s because I’m on vacation.

    I’m so excited about Enshadowed!!

  5. Oh I remember when Forever YA talked about Darkhouse, and had totally added it to my TBR at the time, so thanks for the heads up! I will also happily spend nothing to check this book out. πŸ˜›

I still need to check out Nevermore at some point–we’ll see if it ever happens as I have a fear that it’s the kind of book I’m a bit worn out on, but I have heard such good things and really like the concept of it. Maybe when the series is finished.

    Happy reading, April. =)

  6. I can understand about being disappointed in yourself if you slack, but you were sick! It’s okay to slack if you don’t feel well. I haven’t read any of the Pittacus Lore books but I want to. Nice haul! Here’s my IMM: http://whatsontheshelf.wordpress.com/2012/08/12/in-my-mailbox-17/

  7. Nevermore is such a fantastic book! So cannot wait for the sequel…I’ve heard mixed things about the Pittacus Lore novels, but Quarantine sounds very interesting.

Hope you enjoy them all πŸ™‚

  8. I hope you enjoy everything you got this week! Here’s my IMM =)

  9. I know how you feel about slacking on blogging and feeling bad about it. I have a hard time keeping as much as I would like to during the school year and ending up feeling the same way. Sometimes life and stuff gets in the way; you’ll get back into a groove πŸ™‚

Seeing your copy of Nevermore reminds me that I need to a buy a new copy; mine was lost during the school year. I’m ordering my copy of Enshadowed as well!

  10. Looks like a great haul! Have fun with those. And don’t beat yourself for slacking every once in awhile. I think it can re-energize us on our blogs in a way nothing else can. Besides, you were sick! Cut yourself some slack! I hope you continue to feel better and have a great weekend. I’m playing catch-up myself this weekend! πŸ˜€

  11. Don’t be down on yourself! You can’t help being sick and there is no shame in posting what you can, when you can.

    That Nevermore cover is beauuuuitful.

  12. I would totally take The Rise of Nine off your hands! I’m very excited about this series πŸ™‚ And taking a blogging break because of other concerns always makes me feel slightly bad – but then I reassure myself that it’s perfectly okay.

  13. In response to the first part of your post, yes I feel that way all the time! Sometimes I hardly have enough time for all of my daily snacks let alone blogging. I get really sad but then on my days off it makes me extra productive. But seriously, don’t stress too much! Everyone needs a little bit of a break every now and then ESPECIALLY if you were ill! And as for your mailbox, awesome books! I cannot wait for Enshadowed to come out so I totally understand the need to own Nevermore! It feels like it has been the biggest gap imaginable between these two books so I foresee a re-read in my future!
