In My Mailbox (76)

It’s a good thing this week is so laid back after kind of a spend-crazy IMM last week. Like, I look at the books on my IMM this week and think, yeah I could TOTALLY decimate this pile in one week, so there is that. As always In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren.

Four Review Books

For Review:

For What It’s Worth by Janet Tashjian (unsolicited) – So, I was pitched this book but didn’t respond to the email because I am the worst at email responding these days I KNOW, but anyways the main character is a guy described as a list-making and music loving teen, so you guys the list fan in me will totally eat this up even though the 1970s makes me nervous.

Love & Haight by Susan Carlton (unsolicited) – Okay, this book came in the same package as For What It’s Worth. And while the themes are things I dislike — hippies and pregnancy and the 1970s, I am going to keep an open mind and try it out because well, you never know when a book may turn out to surprise you. As these two books are relatively short I am going to try and get them read within the next three weeks.

The Sweetest Dark by Shana Abe (Amazon Vine) – Yo, the blurb compared this book to Libba Bray’s Gemma Doyle books so of freakin course I had to pick this book out from Vine. There is a boarding school in Victorian England and DRAGON-HUMANS. Bro, this book was a no-brainer pick.

The Broken Lands by Kate Milford (Amazon Vine) – Last week I read The Boneshaker by Milford on recommendation from The Book Smugglers and just fell in love with the story, the themes, the setting, the sinister magic that when The Broken Lands which is a prequel was up for grabs on Vine, I absolutely NEEDED it. The Broken Lands is set in Coney Island and in 19th Century New York so I am curious and anticipatory and excited.

So, that’s my no-fuss manageable mailbox. What do you think of these books? Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to link me to your IMMs.

Also, while you are here, don’t forget to enter my contest for signed Cassie Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan and Holly Black books!

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

Allison reviewed Between The Lines by Tammara Webber
I raved about Alif The Unseen by G. Willow Wilson
Then, I was lukewarm about Perfect Escape by Jennifer Brown
I recapped 10 Vivid Fictional Worlds with a gratuitous Anne and Gilbert kiss gif
I waxed poetic about my sadness for the end of the Paranormalcy series with my review of Endlessly by Kiersten White
Sometimes the best parts of book blogging are leaving your house and going to events! Here’s a recap of meeting Cassie Clare, Holly Black and Sarah Rees Brennan
Unfortunately, I found myself disappointed with So Close To You by Rachel Carter.
Allison needs a little help choosing What To Read Next. My vote is for Insignia. What’s your vote?
It’s good to leave the comfort zone. I get a little freaked by Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi with Curt Gentry.
Finally, I make up for lost childhood by listening to Misty Of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry.

Oh, and today is Good Books & Good Wine’s Three Year Blogoversary! Hurrah!

  1. Congrats on having the book blog up for three years. That’s incredible. Great haul. Having a small week is not a bad thing.

  2. I haven’t read any of your book and I know I’m missing something. Have a great reading week! Nice set of books in your mailbox!

  3. Sweetest Dark sounds awesome. I was already excited about the Victorian Boarding School setting—I didn’t know there were dragon people though!! EVEN BETTER! Grabbed this one at ALA, might have to be one of my next reads now!

  4. All four of those sound interesting. I remember the 70s (just! And that explains why I don’t stick to YA!!) so it’s fun to find out what the grown-ups were up to!
The Sweetest Dark sounds great…I’m going to have it hunt it down…
Thanks for dropping by my blog earlier

  5. Happy Blogoversary! The Sweetest Dark sounds amazing and has gone straight on to my ‘buy’ list. I loved The Boneshaker too, will definitely be checking out The Broken Lands.
