In My Mailbox (71)

It is kind of a brilliant idea for me to read 10 books this weekend, as I’ve got to do something to counterbalance the incoming flow of books. As of typing this at 7 am on Sunday I am on book 6. I also managed to cull 50 books from my house over the week, so no joke I am super impressed with myself. Yet, despite making an effort to get rid of books, a ton came my way, as you will see in this week’s IMM. This is a meme hosted by The Story Siren. I very much enjoy participating!

In My Mailbox Books

Library:

The Difference Between You And Me by Madeleine George – This one was actually recommended by Estelle from Rather Be Reading in the comments of my review of The Miseducation Of Cameron Post. I am excited for this book and expanding my knowledge of LGBTQ.

Secret Society Girl by Diana Peterfreund – Y’all, I feel so totally in love with For Darkness Shows The Stars, and I’ve read the killer unicorn books, thus I thought it was time to begin her contemporary series. ALSO, Mitali said they were good and when that girl gets enthusiastic, you can’t help but want to try whatever book she is pushing.

Purchased:

Major Crush by Jennifer Echols – I bought this on my Kindle because Erica at The Book Cellar had a wonderful review of it, and I just felt it was time to try out a new Jennifer Echols, plus omg there is a marching band and you guys I was a pseudo band geek for two years, meaning I was stuck in auxiliary percussion because I had no idea how to march or play an instrument and zero sense of tempo, so that’s where they put all the misfit kids. I legitimately played the triangle. You want a real live band geek, talk to my blog partner Allison, she was in marching band for years and played the clarinet and was really awesome at it. BUT YES, romance and marching band sign me the hell up. Also the price was right for me at $5.99.

A Kiss At Midnight by Eloisa James – I really liked The Duke Is Mine, so when I saw A Kiss At Midnight on sale for $0.99, I had to snatch it up on my Kindle.

The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope – Okay, this was free and public domain, so I don’t even know if it counts, but y’all, I saw in the description a castle and swash buckling and apparently Errol Flynn is in a movie version, so legit I had to find the Project Gutenberg version and download to my Kindle.

I also bought books at the Fierce Reads tour stop. (FYI you can enter to win a copy of those books here) I bought myself a copy of each of author’s book and my sister 3 books for her birthday — which I already gave her so can’t quite post here.

So the Fierce Reads Books I bought:

Of Poseidon by Anna Banks

Shadow And Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Struck by Jennifer Bosworth

Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne

Birthmarked by Caragh M. O’Brien

Won:

This is the part where I get super flaily arms. YOU GUYS! I won a box set of the Penguin Breathless Reads at the Oblong Books signing and omg I was not even going to enter the contest but then was like WHY NOT and I WON! I literally have not taken the box set off my desk, I just want to pet it. So, what was in it?

Origin by Jessica Khoury – Y’all this noise takes place in a jungle and I am so ready for that setting business.

The Innocents by Lili Peloquin – Okay, yo the Breathless Blurb for it is BREATHLESS SECRETS and every single reader of this blog knows how much I LOVE SECRETS AHHHH SECRETS!

Venom by Fiona Paul – Can I just scream a whole heck of a lot out of excitement. Holy crap, I love the cover. I love the summary. I love the setting. I love the fact that this one is BREATHLESS ROMANCE. I think this will be the one I pet the most.

Black City by Elizabeth Richards – That is one sweet cover. Also this one is blurbed as Breathless Danger. Bro, I am ready for it.

Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes – THAT COVER! You guys there is a badass in a cloak carrying a danger and a bird in the background and a sort of wheel circle sign thing on the front and I loves it so damn much and omg words cannot even describe how much I love it. FOR REAL THEY CAN’T. Boom. Rebellion.

For Review:

A Want So Wicked by Suzanne Young (Unsolicited) – I’ve actually already reviewed this book and was sort of lukewarm on it.

Dark Companion by Marta Acosta (Unsolicited) – Finished copy! YAY! I am still super duper psyched to read this and was excited to see the finished copy show up by MAGIC in my mailbox.

Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer (Unsolicited) – Um, I think some book fairy must have read a few of my excited comments on reviews of this because I was like, oh this book sounds like something I would dig on a few reviews and lo and behold it magically shows up in my mailbox. Peeps, I am pumped up to read about smart girls taking charge.

Breathe by Sarah Crossan (Unsolicited) – This sounds a little bit like Under The Dome by Stephen King which I haven’t read yet but totally need to because hello Stephen King is the deal, and also like Pure by Julianna Baggott. I am down for dome books always.

Feedback by Robison Wells (Unsolicited) – I guess I shall have to make an effort to read Variant within the next few weeks. This isn’t a jab at all, because Sash is a fan of Variant and she is totally has legit taste, so yes, I am looking forward to that noise and this one too.

Valkyrie Rising by Ingrid Paulson (Unsolicited) – The back cover says Mythological Female Warriors. Hook, line and sinker y’all.

Through To You by Emily Hainsworth (Unsolicited) – OKAY so this book is apparently kind of a big deal, like it sold film or TV rights or something already (as someone without cable who only ever watches movies on Netflix HOLLA BUDGET SAVVY I don’t really pay attention to those things) and okay the premise has parallel worlds and grief and love and okay, I will ABSOFREAKINLUTELY read this book.

One Shot Away by T. Glen Coughlin (Unsolicited) – The catalog entry for this says that it is the wrestling version of Friday Night Lights. Y’all my attention has been perked. Also? I just LOVE reading about sports so sign me up, yo.

Outpost by Ann Aguirre (Requested Review Copy) – This is the sequel to Enclave so of course I requested it because I really enjoyed and gobbled up Enclave and am ready to know what happens next in Deuce and Fade’s story.

Necromancing The Stone by Lish McBride (Requested Review Copy) – Sam LaCroix is the shit, so of course when I heard there was going to be a sequel I HAD to get my hands on it.

My Book Of Life By Angel by Martine Leavitt (Requested Review Copy) – This is a book about prostitution, drugs and violence written in verse. It sounds like it will be an affecting read.

The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland And Led The Revels There by Catherynne M. Valente (Requested Review Copy) – Since the title is a mouthful, I will simply say I loved the first book and would like more of Ell, please and thank you.

  1. Oh my gosh…BEST MAILBOX IN THE HISTORY OF MAILBOXES!! *swoons* So many good reads, I hope you enjoy them all!

I won’t even bother listing all the one’s I’m excited for as…well..that’s pretty much all of them!

    Eeeee! *fangirls* 🙂 Happy Reading!

  2. So, ok. I’m losing it over here. Major Crush is one of the few Echols books I haven’t read yet, but I basically love all of her books, to varying degrees, so I’ll get to it. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts. Eloisa James is one of the historical romance authors that I have on my kindle to read, but I keep getting caught up in Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons series. I have the Duke Is Mine, though. I haven’t read ANY historical romance in a few months. GASP! I’ll fix that soon.
But OMG Valkyrie Rising and Through To You! I’m DYING to read those! Valkyrie Rising sounds badass, and Through To You just sounds so mind-bending and intense and AWESOME. Seriously, I DIE. Awesome books, April!

  3. I need to finish reading my copy of Hold Me closer, Necromancer. i had no idea there was a sequel out already!

I just finished my copy of Shadow and Bone. Holy, holy. What a book. Might be best book I’ve read so far this year:)

  4. I requested My Book of Life by Angel as well and am totally SCARED of it because it sounds so tough, but hopefully is good. =)

So awesome that you won the Penguin book pack! I remember seeing them packaged up all nicely at BEA and thinking ‘my that’s fetching’. Totally jealous of Valkyrie Rising, that book looks so potentially awesome, I will await your opinion! Also I was a legit band geek as well (I marched with the melaphone baby), so tell Allison she’s not alone. 😛

  5. So cool that you won the Breathless Reads slipcase! Ooh, and you got Through to You. So many amazing books this week!

Hope you enjoy them all 🙂

  6. Wow, that’s an impressive haul! Really hope you’ll enjoy your books 😉

    Happy Reading!

  9. I won’t even try and comment on any particular book because they are all either on my to-read list or I have yet to add them. 😀 I really hope that you’re going to enjoy every single one of these! 🙂

  10. What great books! Especially Valkyrie Rising and Breathe.

And congrats on winning all those books! Origins and Black City look AWESOME!

    Enjoy all your reading!

  12. Oh my goodness, the books!! That’s one heck of an awesome mailbox, not gonna lie. I’m totally dying to read Breathe and Origin- both look super fantabulous!! I’ve also actually read Valkyrie Rising [a friend got a copy at TLA], and liked it, but didn’t love it. Hopefully you’ll end up liking it more than I did.

Happy reading, and good like with your readathon!
