Auracle Gina Rosati Book Review + Giveaway

This is an Allison review!!

Auracle by Gina Rosati is a debut novel coming out in August 2012. It tells the story of Anna, who is your average seventeen year old girl, except that she can astrally project out of her body. Normally, she can leave her body behind without having a care in the world believing that it is safe and that she will be able to return to it when she is finished with her adventure but, one afternoon after she goes to help keep an eye on a friend and witnesses an accidental death, she learns that this is so far from the truth. Instead of being able to return to her body, Anna finds out that the spirit of the person, who died, popular girl Taylor, has inhibited her body. Now Anna is a spirit without a home and she only has one person she can turn to for her, her best friend Rei. Together they work to form a plan to save their friend Seth from murder charges and get Anna’s body back. Of course, things don’t always go as planned, especially when unanticipated feelings arise, shifting priorities and forcing Anna to question not only her inner strength and the power of a single touch.

Auracle

I loved Auricle. From the first chapter which led to my first witness of Anna’s ability to astrally project, I was hooked. I’m really excited that I’ve already gotten a preview of a book that I know everyone is going to go crazy for! For me, the plot felt so new. It was something that I hadn’t really read before. At first, I couldn’t help but think how cool it would be to astrally project to different places but I quickly learned the dangers of having such an ability and now I really don’t think I would ever want to have it. Honestly though for me the heart of the story isn’t about the ability to astrally project, and the dangers that come with it, but instead Auracle was about Anna’s relationship with Rei.

It was easy to fall into sync with Anna from the beginning of Auracle is told from her perspective so you get to see her thoughts and her emotions. Yet, you also get pieces of Rei too, and it’s from those pieces that I fell in love with him. He’s the classic boy next door but, he feels so real. It was so interesting to see how their friendship was changed as they deal with the crisis at hand. Even though, Anna is a spirit without a body, she and Rei still manage to have breathtaking moments of intimacy which were a joy to witness. They definitely put a sweet smile on my face.

Of course, with the good sweet characters, you have to have at least one not so sweet character to balance things out, and that is there Taylor comes into play. If Rei is your typical boy next door, then Taylor is your typical mean girl. Or at least that is the way she appears in the beginning. Yet the further you get into Auracle, you get to learn a lot more about Taylor, and perhaps even understand why she is the way that she is and why she is doing what she is doing. Yes, she is a very flawed character, but I was still able to have strong feelings of empathy for her through out her journey, and I believe that is all thanks to the strong rich writing of debut author Gina Rosati.

Even now as I write this review, I still don’t think I’m ready to let the story or the characters of Auracle go. This book truly has everything going for it. It has funny moments, romantic moments, emotional moments, which are all wrapped up in a seamless detail. I hated having to put the book down for anything! As I said before, I’m so excited that I’ve already gotten a chance to read a book that I truly feel everyone is going to go crazy for! Make your plans to get your own beautiful copy on August 7th, 2012. I guarantee you will not regret it!
