April: Top 10 Books On My Summer TBR

Friends, readers, compatriots – both Allison and I are participating in today’s Top Ten Tuesday so rather than a super image heavy LONG post we decided to do separate posts. This week’s topic is one of my favorite Top Ten Tuesdays, where we get to choose what books are on our seasonal TBRs. I always like to go back and see how I did the previous season. Y’all I did great for spring. I have read 6 out of the 10 books I picked. Let’s hope the summer TBR yields a count of 10 out of 10 read. FYI Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke And Bookish and was created by The Perpetual Page Turner.

So what’s on my list?

1. My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

My Life Next Door Huntley Fitzpatrick Book Cover

Why?: This is kind of cheating, but My Life Next Door is going to be my next read without a doubt after For Darkness Shows The Stars because I have heard nothing but great things about this debut and I am all about crazy families and romance.

2. Defiance by CJ Redwine

Defiance CJ Redwine Book Cover

Why?: Yo, the girl on the cover is all look at me I have a cape and I am a bad ass. Also the back cover says it is for fans of Tamora Pierce and Kristin Cashore. Sign me up, bro.

3. Insignia by SJ Kincaid

Insignia SJ Kincaid Book Cover

Why?: That cover is SO red and eye catching. PLUS the main character is a gamer and while I am awful at gaming I do enjoy reading about gamers.

4. Swim The Fly by Don Calame

Swim The Fly Don Calame Book Cover

Why?: You guys the plot centers around teenage boys trying to see a girl naked in real life. Hello I am a fan of Judd Apatow movies which this kind of sounds like a little bit. I can’t wait to dive into this book.

5. The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

The Summer I Turned Pretty, Jenny Han, Book Cover

That girl does not look like a Belly

Why?: So, I met Jenny Han at the S&S party during BEA and she is fricken awesome. I feel like a horrible YA fan for not having read the Summer books yet and sigh, I’ve heard a lot about Jeremiah, Conrad and Belly, I want to actually meet them for myself via the books.

6. Throne Of Glass by Sarah Maas

Throne Of Glass Sarah J. Maas Book Cover

Why?: So, Anna was telling me about this one. This tweet:

After that, how could I resist?

7. Endlessly by Kiersten White

Why?: Hellooooo I loved Paranormalcy and Supernaturally and I am DYING to see how it all plays out in the end.

8. The Crown Of Embers by Rae Carson

Crown Of Embers Rae Carson Girl Of Fire ANd Thorns Book Two Book Cover

The Crown Of Embers

Why?: Technically I could toss this on my Fall TBR, but omg you guys. I am a super fan girl for The Girl Of Fire And Thorns, and I legitimately have to make myself hold off on reading The Crown Of Embers until I get a few obligations out of the way first. But when I get those obligations done you better believe I will rip through this sequel.

9. Seraphina by Rachel Hartman

Seraphina Rachel Hartman Book Cover

Why?: Yo, here there be dragons. DRAGONS, y’all. I legitimately can’t resist that noise. I am going to read the hell out of this book and I hope love every minute of it.

10. The Treachery Of Beautiful Things by Ruth Frances Long

Why?: I am a shallow magpie with a love for that cover. SINISTER TREES WHO EAT PEOPLE. Hell freakin yes.

  1. I really want to read My Life Next Door, Throne of Glass and Seraphina too! I’ve been hearing good things about those titles. I’ll be interested in knowing what you think of them.

  2. Yes yes yes to your list. The Summer series is addictive and I can’t wait to hear what you think of My Life Next Door. Swim the Fly looks very fun and I’ve heard good things about Insignia.
    Happy summer reading, April!

  3. My Life Next Door looks SO good, I really want to read it and soon! I hadn’t heard of Swim the Fly but it has the potential to be a really funny read!

  4. Amazing picks, all of these are on my tbr list or wishlist, and I’m especially excited about Insignia, at the moment I’m re-reading (and once again loving every second of it) Ready Player One, so yeah, I love books about gamers, too 😀

  5. Yes! Read The Crown of Embers soon! I need you to tell me it’s all kinds of awesome as well so I can get even more excited! 🙂 I really liked The Summer I Turned Pretty, the other two books in the series a little less, but they were still good 🙂
I cannot wait for Defiance and Throne of Glass! I love all the shiny new fantasy releases 🙂

  6. Crown of Embers would be at the top of my list (I think summer doesn’t end till Sept 21 and I am sure I will be finished with this one by then). Throne of Glass would be on my list too and I think Seraphina sounds really good. I like YA books with dragons. I’d also put Hidden by Sophie Jordan on my list. Truthfully I am more excited about the September-November books with Rick Riordan’s The Mark of Athena and Dearly, Beloved and Ten by Gretchen McNeil. So excited for that one…

  7. Most excellent list! I’m particularly excited about Defiance, Throne of Glass, and Endlessly!

  8. I heard awesome things about The girl of fire and thorns I really need to buy it !
OMG Throne of glass I can’t wait to read it it’s also one of the book that I picked for my top ten tuesday. I have already pre-ordered a copy ;).

  9. I’m so, so excited about Throne of Glass and Crown of Embers!! I can’t wait to get started on them.

  10. I have My Life Next Door on my list as well. The Summer series is absolutely fabulous and a series I would definitely recommend. Hope you read and enjoy all these!

    My TTT!

  11. “Also the back cover says it is for fans of Tamora Pierce and Kristin Cashore.”

Yeah, that’s all I really need to hear as well! And uhm I am DYING for The Crown Of Embers. NEED IT. Oh and Seraphina, I totally have that one from NetGalley and need to get on it. DRAGONS. Etc.

  12. I can’t wait to hear what you think of Defiance because it sounds like my kind of book. Tamora Pierce and Kristin Cashore are like keywords that make books automatically jump to the top of my tbr list.

  13. I’m dying to read Throne of Glass! And I’m going to finish Jenny Han’s Summer series, too – they’re great beach reads.

Thanks for reminding me about the Paranormalcy books – I’d actually kinda forgotten about them *guilty face*. I shouldn’t have; they are really cute, fun books.

  14. I am SOOO with you on The Crown of Embers! I mega-lurved The Girl of Fire and Thorns and can’t wait to see what happens next 🙂

  15. Hah, #4 has a plot that sounds COMPLETELY believable. Fun cover, too!

  16. I LOVED My Life Next Door and am super excited about Throne of Glass. And there are so many other books on your list that I want to read. I’m hoping for ten out of ten, too.

  17. Christina BookTasty says

You’re going to live The Summer I Turned Pretty, it’s really good! I can’t wait to read The Treachery of Beautiful Things too! Enjoy these 🙂

  18. I haven’t heard of any of these books but the covers are gorgeous!! I am going to have to add some of them to my TBR list.

  19. This reading list rocks. I just read about Seraphina today and it sounds incredible!! Happy reading! <3

  20. My Life Next Door! And I need to hurry up and read Supernaturally before Endlessly comes out!

  21. I want to read most of the books on your list too and will eagerly await your reviews! At the moment I think I’m most excited for Seraphina since I have an e-ARC I’ll be reading soon and because it has DRAGONS!

  22. Yay for the summer books!!! I can’t wait to see what you think of them. <3

I'm currently reading Throne of Glass right now from net galley. I really like it, and it's funny cause I have been thinking while reading that it might be something you would enjoy.

Endlessly. I love that cover, I have to def try to squeeze this in over the summer. loved the first two. I made trailers for both, and I plan to make one for this, so I have a full trilogy of trailers. — this excites my nerdy self. lol.

Also I'm dying for My life next door. I keep hearing the good things too.

  23. Defiance keeps popping up on people’s lists. I might have to give it a go. I like the cover, too. I’ve got a few red head kids.

  24. Great list! You have a lot on there I forgot about like Defiance and The Treachery of Beautiful Things. You must read the Summer series by Jenny Han! It is probably my favorite contemporary series ever!

  25. We are gonna have sooo much to discuss when you’re done with some of these. Also? The new Rae Carson? JEALOUS!

  26. Great list! There’s a few on here I have recently added to my Goodreads. I have been dying to read Masque of the Red Death, but haven’t been able to get ahold of it yet. Thanks for stopping by!

  27. LOVE your list! I really want to read Throne of Glass (that tweet would seal the deal for me too!), My Life Next Door, and The Treachery of Beautiful Things. Also, Defiance looks good – solely basing that on the cover 🙂

Thanks for stopping by my top ten!

  28. I’m borrowing Throne of Glass from you when you are finished with it because I REALLY want to read it, and I’m putting this information in comment form on the blog so that it’s official. 😉

  29. My Life Next Door and Insignia are on my summer list too! I have heard nothing but good things about both so far so I can’t wait to give them a go.

Throne of Glass sounds amazing too! That tweet sells it perfectly.

    Enjoy your summer reads! 🙂

    My Top Ten Tuesday!

  30. So Excited for “Throne of Glass” and “Defiance”, Bring on the Kick Ass Girls (And if the Author’s blog is anything to go by Defiance will also probably also have a really good mix of humour which I can’t resist!)

  31. Wait, hold up. I didn’t know Insignia was about a gamer. Gamer Capillya from Back in the Day would probably be interested in reading this book! I will have to channel her for sure!

I haven’t seen The Treachery of Beautiful Things out in the wild before (HA SEE WHAT I DID THERE) but man, if Stiefvater can write about some deadly horses and make me love it, I will definitely read about some sinister trees.

  32. INSIGNIA. READ THIS ONE FIRST!! ahem..

But for real – READ IT ASAP!

  33. I LIKE SO MUCH OF YOUR LIST it is ridiculous.
I totally LOVED LOVED The Girl of Fire and Thorns. HUMBERTO!

And for Defiance “Yo, the girl on the cover is all look at me I have a cape and I am a bad ass. Also the back cover says it is for fans of Tamora Pierce and Kristin Cashore. Sign me up, bro.” Totally hilarious and spot on. Tamora Pierce has been on my favorites lists since I actually WAS a young adult.
    Happy summer reading!

  34. Great list! Most of these are on my TBR. I can’t wait to start them 😀

  35. My Life Next Door is going to be my next read too! I’ve been wanting to read it since I heard about it. Throne of Glass looks really good too.

  36. I shouldn’t have looked at your list. Now I have a lot more books that I want to read. I haven’t read any of the books in your list, but Defiance and Throne of Glass definitely sound good. Great list!

Thanks for visiting my top ten.

  37. Fantastic list! I’m soooo excited for “The Crown of Embers”, is it August yet??? I loved the first book so much and have been telling everyone that they should read it, hopefully they’re listening!

I just received “My Life Next Door” in the mail, time to go get started on that 🙂

  38. I really enjoyed Swim the Fly. Boys are so strange. Book cracked me up. great list.

  39. Awesome list! Insignia sounds so good and I can’t wait to read Defiance. Thanks for stopping by my Top Ten!

  40. I can’t wait to read the reviews for these!

  41. There’s so much awesomeness in your list. You have fabulous taste!

MY LIFE NEXT DOOR is AMAZZZZZEBALLS, and I’m positive you’ll love it as much as I do. You must let me know how Defiance is. Everyone keeps talking about how grand it is.

  42. So pretty much all of these books are on my tbr list too. Throne of Glass has so much buzz. I’m excited for it. I like the other cover I’ve been seeing around.

  43. Oh man, My Life Next Door is EPIC. It is THE perfect summer read and I’m sure you will absolutely love it!

  44. Where have I been that I haven’t heard of CJ Redwine’s Defiance? The cover is striking and I do love Tamora Pierce!

  45. So many great books on your list! Some of these made my list too and the rest of them are going to have to get added on. Thanks for stopping by my top ten!

  46. My Life Next Door was SO GOOD. I was afraid going into it that my expectations would be too high, but I really ended up falling in love with it.

Also, I just started reading The Summer I Turned Pretty and I am really, really loving it. I started it a day ago and I have to keep pacing myself so that I don’t finish it too quickly!

And THRONE OF GLASS! That book is definitely one of the ones I’m SO excited to read.

  47. We kind of did that thing we do sometimes where we talk about the same books. WHICH IS AWESOME. Because Throne of Glass, Seraphina, and Defiance all sound bananas and I can’t wait to read them. So many legit fantasies coming out this summer!
BUT OMG APRIL. I can’t wait for you to read the Summer books!! AH!! I think you’re going to LOVE them. I seriously am STOKED for you!
