JK Rowling’s Book For Adults Has A Name: The Casual Vacancy

YOU GUYYYYYYS! When I was perusing Amazon to see what the Kindle Daily Deal was, I stumbled upon news about JK Rowling’s book for adults!

Expecto Patronum!

And it was a squeak of joy heard round the world.

JK Rowling’s Adult book will be titled The Casual Vacancy!

It releases September 27, 2012!

AND OMG The Casual Vacancy has a summary:

“When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…. Pagford is not what it first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town’s council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations? Blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising, The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults.”

It may not be the boy wizard my generation and I grew to love, but I am so pumped and am preordering that noise.

  1. YES! Despite the fact that I didn’t know what to expect and that this doesn’t sound like my usual read, I am pumped for some JKR fab-ness. Totally pre-ordering

  2. I’m just happy she’s writing more. I will read anything she writes. Forever.

  3. It doesn’t sound like my usual read – but I fully plan on both pre-ordering and giving it a fair chance. Who knows; maybe I’ll love it. After all? Harry Potter didn’t used to be my bag either!

  4. “How lovely on the mountains are the feet of them that bring good news”! In other words, you just made my day with this post!! I’m still struggling to forgive her for not writing any more wizarding world, but you KNOW I’m going to be devouring this book as soon as I can lay my greedy little claws on it!

  5. EEk. You know it’s got to make her nervous, even with all her success. Or maybe because of it.

I read and love Ian Rankin, a Scottish detective novelist, and years ago there were rumors that he and J.K. got together to talk about whodunnits. Therefore, I am PUMPED. 🙂

  6. OMG that sounds SO GOOD!!! 😀 Thanks for sharing!

  7. I just saw the price for the Kindle version…$19.99…

  8. Even though this wasn’t really what I was expecting, I’m glad she’s writing more! I’m definitely going to give this one a shot. 🙂

  9. I love that title. It’s gong to be interesting to see how well it does compared to her HP books! And wowza, $20 for Kindle is crazy.

  10. WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW PUMPED I AM FOR THIS BOOK!!!

  11. Holy CATS. I’m excited. I love books about small villages (Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand, anyone?). I love ENGLISH books about small ENGLISH villages. I love Harry Potter. So JK Rowling writing a SMALL TOWN story with drama in a SMALL BRITISH VILLAGE pushes all of my buttons simultaneously.

  12. I’m excited for this, but honestly, I’m going to be sitting back and seeing how everyone likes it first.. No pre-ordering for me. lol I always get nervous when I read a series, then try to read something else the author has come out with. Most the time it works out great, like with Melissa Marrs Graveminder. What a relief it was, when I ended up loving it. lol

  13. It doesn’t sound like my usual read as well, but of course I’m going to read it!! I bet it will blow us all away too! I can’t wait.

  14. I’ve already pre-ordered it! It sounds great to me, and I’m so glad she’s gone with something different – she’s clearly not pandering to an audience/fan base or anything.
