Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon Is BACK: And A Stack

This time of the year sort of feels like Christmas, only it comes twice a year and I’m not obligated to spend money, y’all it’s the biannual Dewey 24 Hour Readathon. That’s right, it starts Saturday at 8 a.m. for my EST time zone.

I will be hosting a mini-challenge for Dewey’s Readathon towards the very end, and it’s a fun one, I pinky swear.

Anyways, I’m pretty sure you’re here for the stack, so boom here’s my potential reads:

Readathon Stack April 21 2012

This time around, I’m mixing it up with review books, some purchases, and the traditional Roald Dahl book.

The list – please note I doubt I’ll read all of these, but I like having a large, predetermined pool to choose from:

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick – I’ve read about 80 pages of this and the time has come to finally finish it.

Father Of Lies by Ann Turner – I chose this because it’s very tiny with under 250 pages, plus nothing captivates me like the Salem Witch Trials.

First Day On Earth by Cecil Castellucci – 150 pages on alien abductions with…62 chapters. I’m pretty sure this book is the ultimate readathon book.

After Tupac and D Foster by Jacqueline Woodson – Yo, Tupac was an awesome rapper. Also, I’m a fan of Jacqueline Woodson.

Sailor Moon 1 by Naoko Takeuchi – Nostalgia AND comics are great on my eyes at night.

Neversink by Barry Wolverton – What’s a readathon without some middle grade?

Before You Go by James Preller – So basically the book is described on the back as being gripping and during a readathon I desperately want to be gripped.

The Celery Stalks At Midnight by James Howe – BOOM! Zombie vegetables.

The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl – It’s kind of a tradition for me to read a Roald Dahl book at every Readathon.

Waiting by Carol Lynch Williams – This noise is written in VERSE and everyone knows that a verse book is ideal for a readathon because they go quick.

Just Write: Here’s How by Walter Dean Myers – So this is a review book and really short and I’d love to check it off my list by reading it during Dewey’s.

First Comes Love by Katie Kacvinsky – A thin contemporary book about a relationship. HOLLA.

Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick by Joe Schreiber – I am all about books set during prom.

Invisible World by Suzanne Weyn – Again, I am DOWN WITH SALEM WITCH TRIALS.

Bone by Jeff Smith one volume edition – I will try to read from this when my eyes get tired. It’s 9 books in one.

Thumped by Megan McCafferty – I quite liked the first book and think finding out what happened to Harmony and Melody will get me through some of the readathon.

Also, I will likely take a few breaks to unofficially cheerlead for some friends. Let me know if you are participating!

You can sign up for the readathon by clicking here!

  1. Wow, you’ve got a lot of books! I will be reading too – I’m working through review books first, then probably a few that I own and haven’t gotten to yet, but I’m pretty much open to whatever will keep me awake at the end. πŸ™‚ Good luck!

  2. Looks good! Excited this year (it’s always exciting, I mean)!

  3. Hey, I am reading too……:)
But this is my first time.So I am sort of nervous

  4. Hey April! I will be reading also. This will be my first year. My stack is about ten times smaller than yours. I am a super slow reader, so I am only expecting to complete 3 books.

  5. I’m going to see a theatre production of Beauty and the Beast that day, but I think I’ll participate while I’m not doing that. I’ve been wanting to do a read-a-thon for awhile now.

  6. I’ve heard that Hugo is fabulous and also a quick read. Also? (Yes, I totally stole that from your comments.) Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick was a lot of fun. Sadly it’s one of those books where the ending is awesome and slightly ambiguous and then you find out there’s a sequel and you’re like “YAY!” and then there is no information about it on the Internet WHATSOEVER.

  7. I’m going on vacation so I can’t participate πŸ™ I hope you have a fun 24-hours!

  8. I’ve never heard of this magic! Although I don’t know that I could pull off 24 hours of straight reading I might give it a shot. Because I could totally stand to get focused and READ. It’s like a grown-up DEAR! Your stack looks fab, too. Neversink sounds absolutely adorable and I can’t wait to read it myself. And I LOVE that you read Roald Dahl books. I seriously loved him as a wee thing, and I love him still. Good stuff!

  9. I never heard of the Dewey 24 Hour Readathon before, but it sounds very interesting and fun! It’s too late for me to participate this weekend, but I’ll surely do it next time around.

  10. Mad props to you for taking all those on. I’m getting overwhelmed just looking at the picture and thinking about reading them all in 24 hours! Although I think I could get behind a read-a-thon, just so I can catch up with all the books I want to read! Sadly, not this weekend… I’m moving (hooray!). Good luck and can’t wait to hear how it goes.

  11. Those look great! Can you please explain what this Read-a-thon is. I get the general gist but if you could lay down some of the rules, maybe provide a link to the creaters of this thingy. Thanks!

  12. I am reading for the first time this year – should be fun! You’ve got a great stack of books – hope you enjoy them!

  13. All right, I’m partcipating. I just can’t figure out how to sign up as a reader!

  14. I’m so jealous. I would love love love to do a read a thon. A few years ago, I could have swung it.. but then I got this great idea to spawn a child. Gone went my free time.

Worth it but still, sometime I want to stomp my feet ” its not fair, damn you vagina!” <— now we are even, I have been trying to think a way to add vagina to your comments for a couple weeks now. lol

yay for reading though. I won't officially be participating, but when i'm not busy, my butt will be on the couch with a book in my face.

  15. I read Cecil’s book last readathon for that very reason it is the perfect readathon book.

  16. Good luck! There are some awesome books here πŸ™‚

  17. Good luck with the read-a-thon! I was hoping to participate as well, but I have classes most of the day. Maybe next time πŸ™‚

  18. Happy read-a-thon-ing! I’ve had my eye on First Comes Love – I like that it tackles the nitty gritty of relationships. And Thumped should make for some fun reading too.

  19. I really really liked Father of Lies – I was attracted to it too cause it`s about the Salem witch trials, but it`s definitely more than that. It`s a pretty quick read too, so it`s a good pick for a read a thon.

  20. I may try to get in on this action…or just unofficially cheer lead!

  21. Hey! I’m participating, though will be apartment hunting half of the day, but here is my read a thon prep post: http://aboutthestory.wordpress.com/2012/04/19/readathonprep/

  22. HOLY COW! That’s one heck of a stack…

I’ve got so much stuff going on this weekend that I can’t officially participate – but I WILL have my audiobooks going for pretty much the full 24 πŸ˜€

  23. That’s an awesome stack of books! I hope you get lots read and have fun! πŸ™‚

  24. April if you read all of these books … OMG. Well, good luck πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚

  25. You’re pretty much my reading hero. I’ve only managed to read two books today πŸ˜›
