Spring Has Sprung: Top Ten Books On My Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and Bookish and was created by Jamie at the Perpetual Page Turner.

Okay, so when I read this week’s topic, Top Ten Books On Your Spring TBR, I had to go back and check to see if I had spectacularly failed at the Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR. BUT YOU GUYS, I’ve read HALF of the books I listed on my Top Ten Winter TBR Books, that’s pretty awesome. I hope I can be twice as successful with reading these Spring Books.

Top 10 Books On My Spring TBR:

1. Masque Of The Red Death by Bethany Griffin

The Masque Of The Red Death Bethany Griffin Book Cover

The Masque Of The Red Death

Why?: Yo, a kind of retelling of Edgar Allan Poe? THAT is my Jam.

2. Thumped by Megan McCafferty

Thumped Megan McCafferty Book Cover

Thumped

Why?: I really enjoyed Bumped and Megan McCafferty is THE DEAL, so naturally I’m psyched to see what happens to Melody and Harmony.

3. The List by Siobhan Vivian

The List Siobhan Vivian Book Cover

The List

Why?: Apparently The List is supposed to be like a YA exploration of the Beauty Myth and kind of feminist and all I can think is SIGN ME UP YO!

4. Happy Families by Tanita S. Davis

Happy Families Tanita S. Davis Book Cover

Happy Families

Why?: YOU GUYS! I haven’t read anything by Tanita S. Davis but all signs point to awesome when it comes to her writing so I desperately need to correct this and read one of her books soon, and what better than a contemporary about twins with a transgender dad. YES PLEASE.

5. Shadow And Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Shadow And Bone Leigh Bardugo Book Cover

Shadow And Bone

Why?: First off, Veronica Roth blurb. Second off, HIGH FREAKIN’ FANTASY. You guys, there’s a dark thing that eats people. Like, a shadow. LIKE IN THE NEVERENDING STORY. HOLY EFF I CANNOT WAIT!!!

6. The Story Of Us by Deb Caletti

The Story Of Us Deb Caletti Book Cover

The Story Of Us

Why?: I love me some Deb Caletti. To me, her books are as solid as Sarah Dessen but in a class of their own.

7. Thou Shalt Not Road Trip by Antony John

Thou Shalt Not Road Trip Antony John Book Cover

Thou Shalt Not Road Trip

Why?: Dude, road trip book. Do I need  to elaborate? Okay, I will. SO this book apparently talks about a kid questioning their faith and I don’t see that a lot in YA and as I used to question my faith a lot back when I used to be religious, I find that fascinating.

8. The Calling by Kelley Armstrong

The Calling Kelley Armstrong Book Cover

The Calling

Why?: Two words: BOOK CRACK.

9. The Watch That Ends The Night by Allan Wolf

The Watch That Ends The Night Allan Wolf Book Cover

The Watch That Ends The Night

Why?: I love verse books and the Titanic and historical fiction and since this April is the 100th anniversary, I absolutely need to read this.

10. Catching Jordan by Miranda Kennally

Catching Jordan, Miranda Kenneally, Book Cover, football

Catching Jordan

Why?: Duh! All of the cool kids have read it and I absolutely need to read Catching Jordan asap.

Comments

  1. Many of these are on my list too! Though, I haven’t read any Kelley Armstrong books yet…gotta get on that!

  2. UGH how did I forget Shadow and Bone? I actually left my copy at my parents so I wouldn’t be tempted to read it ASAP. Too much to do! But Catching Jordan is amazing! And, gah, I’m so sorry, but I haven’t actually decided if I will be reading Thumped, do not hate me, por favor! And. Anyway. Yup! Fab list, April!

  3. YES! I also need to read Masque of the Red Death. I am buying The List because it comes out on my birthday. Shadow and Bone also looks great, and Catching Jordan is chilling in a pile in my apartment. Nice TBR pile!

  4. Loved Catching Jordan! Had to suspend a bit of belief at the girl quarterback wanting to play football in college, but the love story was great 🙂

  5. I hope to read Shadow & Bone soon too, and I’ve had The Watch That Ends The Night a while but have yet to read it, not sure why I haven’t yet since I love Titanic books…

  6. Masque of the Red Death is definitely a must-read for me; I adore Poe and I am so happy to see some YA authors incorporating him into their work! Also psyched for The List and hoping to read Catching Jordan this spring too (since I went out and bought the book).

  7. Sounds fabulous, especially the Titanic one. I hadn’t heard of it till now. Thanks April.

  8. I still need to read Catching Jordan too. I also want to read The Story of Us and The List. Shadow and Bone sounds really good. The title reminds me of Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Great list!

  9. Thumped is high on my list too, and I didn’t know there was another Caletti coming out so soon! I’ll be on the lookout for that one, too.

  10. Yess to Shadow and Bone!! Also I totally forgot about the Masque of Red Death! Yay! Here is my Top Ten

  11. So many that I want to read asap too! I think I’m going to read Thumped very soon. I loved Bumped! I’m also super excited about The List and Shadow and Bone!

  12. Loved the list! Added two to my to-read list…thanks so much!

  13. The Masque of Red Death sounds AMAZING, and I don’t even read that much Edgar Allen Poe. I never read Bumped, but I really keep meaning to. Also, Kelley Armstrong. How have I not picked that up yet, either? …oh, because my TBR is several countries long. 😛

  14. I had to Lol because my reasons for wanting to read “Shadow and Bone” and “Catching Jordan” are exactly the same as yours (I could only be convinced to read a book about a sport that I do not know the rules to by the fact that all the cool kids are reading it!)

  15. 1, 3 and 5 are also on my list. Not the list on my blog, but just the paper list 🙂

  16. YAY, I love your list! I can’t believe I left out Smoke and Bone… I will definitely be getting to it ASAP. I need to read Bumped already and I loved Catching Jordan – enjoy!

  17. Awesome books! I was just eyeing Thou Shalt Not Road Trip the other day. I love a good road trip book! And everyone is saying such good things about the Masque of Red Death. I can’t wait to read it!

    Great picks! 🙂

  18. Masque of the Red Death and Shadow & Bone look amazing! The List looks interesting as well.

  19. Um, The List is so good, so good. I absolutely devoured that book. I think a lot of teens need to pick up this book because the message that comes out of it is pretty awesome.

I just finished The Story of Us last night. It was my first Deb Caletti book, and while I loved it, there were also things I wanted from it when I was done. I needed more. I hope you get to read it soon so I can read what you thought! 🙂

  20. Great list! Lots of these I’m looking forward to as well!

  21. Nice list! That Masque of the Red Death cover is screaming my name.

    My TTT

  22. Masque of the Red Death has a gorgeous cover. I’m adding The List to my tbr list.

  23. Masque of the Red Death- Poe and plagues? Sign me up!
Also, since you called The List feminist now I have to go look it up. That is one of those terms that piques my interest immediately!

  24. This is such a great list!! (I need to read Bumped so I can read Thumped!)

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Catching Jordan!!

  25. I so want Shadow & Bone. I want to be one of the cool kids. I need to buy Catching Jordan.

  26. Oh I really want to read Masque of the Red Death! And so many other books on your list!

    Thanks for stopping by!

  27. I really want to read The Calling. The first one was pretty awesome!!

  28. OHhh I’ve heard good things about the Titanic book. I have a friend who is completely obsessed with Titanic. Seriously, I think she asks about twice a month if we can watch the movie. I’ll have to recommend it to her!!

  29. HOW did I forget to add The List?? It sounds SO good! Also, YAY for Masque of the Red Death and Shadow and Bone! 😀
And congrats on doing so well on reading the book on your Winter TBR TTT 🙂

  30. Masque is good. Masque is good. Setting as character and debauchery and such.

Oh! Random, have you seen the movie trailer for The Raven. GEEZ.

  31. I’m looking forward to Thou Shalt Not Road Trip too, I love road trip books! I really want to read Catching Jordan too, it looks great!

  32. Can I just say that I love the cover for Shadow And Bone? Looking forward to reading it (and not just because of the cover, ha).

  33. Ooh The Watch that Ends the Night looks awesome. Love books in verse, and I’m fascinated with the Titanic. Yay we have Catching Jordan in common too so we can see what we’ve been missing. The List and Thumped are two that I’ve had my eye on as well.
    Happy reading & happy spring!

  34. Just a brief correction: you state that Tanita’s new book is about “…twins with a transgender dad.” Although ARC’s did make this statement in the Library of Congress summary, this statement will not appear in the actual published work.

  35. Haha, best of luck to you, and may you be more successful in completing your spring reads! I’m shocked and appalled that you haven’t read Catching Jordan yet, but then again, neither have I. 😛

I can’t wait to get my own paws on Masque of the Red Death and The List. I don’t know if I’ll get a hold of them before summer, but I can’t wait!

  36. I find The List to be really intriguing and I’ve heard a lot of good things about Masque of the Red Death.

    Thanks for Stopping by!

  37. I just finished Shadow and Bone. It got my very elusive 5-star rating. I LOVED IT!! Can’t wait to see what you think!

  38. Yay Masque! Ah, I totally wanted to check out The Watch That Ends the Night too.. I love stuff about the Titanic. I’ve also heard Catching Jordan is actually quite good!

Thanks for stopping by my Top 10! 🙂

  39. Yay! Catching Jordan! I’m really looking forward to Stealing Parker out this fall. I miss really good YA Contemporary. I need more of it.

  40. I honestly haven’t had much desire to read the Shadow and Bone book. I haven’t seen too much about it though.. but your decription.. I’ll have to check it out.. Love Love love the never ending story, so scary shadow shit.. that’s very exciting.

thumped.. I haven’t even read bumped yet. I’m so behind the times. Do you think she will write a prequel to these books? I think she should and name it Humped. I really want to read her Jessica Darling books. Everyone raves about them.

  41. I totally sucked on winter TBR. I read one of the books I said I would 😛
Yay Thumped! I’ve really been looking forward to it since finishing Bumped and discovering it had a sequel.
Oooh. A dark thing that eats people. I hadn’t heard about that before, though I haven’t done much research on the book. I’mall over dark things eating people, though!
It takes some convincing for me to read a contemp sometimes, but I’ve heard SO many things about Catching Jordan that I hope to read it soon too :]

  42. First off, thank you for stopping by my TTT! Next, I am loving your list. Masque of Red Death has been on TBR pile for a while. I’m eyeing Shadow & Bone and The Watch That Ends The Night. I love Titanic books. We got to do a Titanic unit in 7th grade English – and write a short story about the experience of a passenger who survived in first person. It was so neat!

  43. Great list! I’ve only heard of one of those books (Shadow and Bone; I think I have it on my want-to-read pile on GoodReads) but I hope you enjoy all those books =)

Am also ridiculously late but thanks for dropping by my blog last Tuesday! =)
