A sexy romance that fans of Simone Elkeles and Jamie McGuire will fall in love with…
There's a lot Zoey would like to forget. Like how her father has knocked-up his twenty-four-year-old girlfriend. Like her mom's nervous breakdown. Like Doug, the darkly handsome bad boy, who taunts her at school… Worried that her life is becoming a complete mess, Zoey fights back the only way she knows how, by making sure that she's perfect - the perfect daughter, the perfect student and the perfect girlfriend to ultra-popular football player, Brandon.
But then Zoey is in a car crash and can't remember anything about the night it happened. She should have been with Brandon, but he doesn't seem to know anything about the accident - and, more confusingly, doesn't seem to care. Only Doug, who saved her from the wreckage, has the answers Zoey so desperately needs, but he's the last person she wants to rely on, especially as he's acting like something happened between them that night. Which can't be true, can it? But with her thoughts full of Doug and strangely empty of Brandon, Zoey starts to question her feelings for the two boys and whether being perfect is more important than following your heart.

You guys, I get it. I finally get it. I get why so many of my blogger friends think Jennifer Echols is the best thing since sliced bread. I’m pretty sure I picked the wrong Jennifer Echols book to start with, because it turns out that I enjoy her romantic dramas as OMG I wanted to hug my kindle after reading Forget You. IT IS SO GOOD.

The premise of Forget You by Jennifer Echols is that Zoey gets in this car accident. When she wakes up it is not Brandon the jock football player supposed boyfriend by her side, but Doug, her ornery swim teammate instead. Zoey has no idea what happened , yet because of her background, must maintain control. You see, her dad is a HUGE douchebag who taught her image is everything, yet this guy left her mom for his 20 something human resources employee. Zoe’s mom then tries to commit suicide and is in a mental hospital. Understandably, Zoey is under all kinds of pressure. And that’s kind of her state of mind for most of Forget You.

Look, I kind of gave Zoey a free pass on being annoyingly fixated on Brandon. Girl’s been through A LOT and she’s probably too naive to realize that Brandon’s the love ’em and leave ’em type. I mean, we all had that type of boy at our high schools and maybe some of us were dumb enough to think we could change them when we TOTALLY COULD NOT. Despite her irritating obsession with the meatball head, I honestly liked Zoey’s alpha control the story personality. However, I liked her vulnerable inside even more. Straight up, though, I wanted to shake Zoey and be like LISTEN HERE, Doug is the shit, why you all over a meat head?

And okay, speaking of Doug, I’m of two minds on him. Some of the things he does drives me nuts, like being a stubborn petulant child in certain scenes. But then others? UM ENGIVE REVVING YO! OMG, so Forget You has sexytimes. The XXX. I mean, it’s tame but still my YAY POM POMS are out over here (and ew, don’t be gross). You guys, there is a sleepy car ride scene and all I can say is prepare for the backseat of swoons, your lesson in swoonology.

I know Forget You isn’t everyone’s favorite Jennifer Echols book, but honestly, I loved it and it was good choice/gift for me when it came to reading the first of her dramas. I know that I am definitely going to be back for more and will probably turn into one of those sliced bread fans. I can’t wait.

Comments

  1. This was my first Echols book and probably my favorite. I really liked The Boys Next Door, actually, but the second novel in the bind-up was a let-down afterwords. Her dramas, I think, have that juicy flavor of angst and more sexy-times. Also, come on, she portrays a self-pleasure scene with NO SHAME. I mean, it just deserves pom-poms.

  2. Jennifer Echols is THE BUSINESS. I love her AND her love for the XXX. Forget You was awesome for sure (I mean, that backseat action was STEAMY), but I seriously can’t wait for you to read Going Too Far! And I’m with you on the romantic comedies, but the one she just put out–The One That I Want–was actually pretty cute. Definitely lighter on the sexytimes, but also definitely better than the stories in the Endless Summer bind-up. Three cheers for sexytimes!

  3. I prefer Echols’ lighter side like The Boys Next Door (but NOT the sequel) and The Ex-Games as this had too many elements that annoyed me. Hopefully you’ll be tackling Going Too Far soon-that seems to be the book most adored by bloggers (although again I prefer TBND).

  4. PAGE 211!!!!!

    Ah Doug.

    Also, yay self helping.

  5. You have made me want to read this. I want a book that I want to hug afterwards! I’m not usually the romantic/mushy type but recently I have really felt like something cute to read and this looks perfect. I like the whole element of her dad being a dick as well- that sounds really interesting! Great review! x

  6. Sounds like a cute book, but with a to-read list in the hundreds there needs to be more to get me interested.

An enjoyable review, as always 🙂

  7. I want to marry this book. It’s my favorite by Echols. I’ve read it at least 3 times now. We’re totally getting hitched & having little Doug babies. It’s happening.

  8. Jennifer Echols really does know how to write swoon-y scenes. This was my favorite of her novels. Glad you enjoyed it 🙂

  9. I LOVE Jennifer Echols, both her romantic comedies (Major Crush is so much fun!) and her dramas like this one (my fave is Going Too Far–love it!) and she kills it with her swoonage. I can only image how awesome the swooning will be in her adult novel comes out (I think late this year).

  10. CAR SCENE. THE END.

  11. I’m glad you found a Jennifer Echols book that was a better fit! I have yet to try her myself, and know I really need to. Before this year, I didn’t really read contemporary unless it was something huge, so I’m just now jumping on the bandwagon.

  12. Yay!!!! I loooooove Jennifer Echols and this one is definitely my favorite book from her right along with Going too Far. I loooved the sexy times in this one, and Dough… swoon!!! So glad you loved it! =D

  13. I have never read a Jennifer Echols book – which one would you suggest for my first? This one sounds GREAT, but I’m curious what you would suggest to pick up first!

  14. This book is the business. It’s not a life changer, but by golly it is such a well crafted contemporary romance with some sexytimes and mystery and self discovery. I loved all of the things!

  15. Jasmine Rose says

Okay, I really need to read some more Echols. I read Love Story and enjoyed it, but everyone keeps saying how much better her other books are. I have Going Too Far on my shelf at home. I’ll have to pick it up soon!

  16. Okay, time to read GOING TOO FAR which is MY FAVORITE. AHHHH OFFICER AFTER!!!!

  17. Funny story, I really enjoyed Forget You, but not as much as Endless Summer! LOL. The end was my favourite :3

  18. I wasn’t a fan of FORGET YOU, but as you said, some aren’t, some are. I adored GOING TOO FAR though! I haven’t read any of her lighter romances, but perhaps I am glad that I stuck with the romantic dramas 🙂

  19. 1) I love that you called Brandon a meatball head, it gave me Sailor Moon flashbacks haha

    2) I haven’t read a single one of her books yet, but maybe this would be a good one for me to start with!
