Five Reasons Friday: Chick Loves Lit

Five Reasons Friday is a brand new feature I am rolling out to shine a spotlight on my favorite book blogs. These are the blogs that don’t necessarily have the most followers, but continually impress me with their content. Please, do not email me asking to be featured as I don’t want to be put in the position of saying no.

This week I am featuring a blogger very dear to me, someone I have known for a quite a long time- Shanyn the rockin blogger who runs Chick Loves Lit.

Why should you be reading Shanyn’s blog?

Chick Loves Lit

1. Are you a contemporary fan? Shanyn is THE expert. Seriously, before I begin a contemporary book I always ask her what she thought of it, because 9 out of 10 times, Shanyn has read it.

2. Speaking of which, Shanyn is running some really fun challenges that I was too lazy to declare my participation in, like The Completely Contemporary Challenge where you read not ONLY frontlist contemporary, but BACKLIST contemporary, and friends I love a good backlist book. She also is running the Sophmore Challenge, where you read an author’s second book, which totally keeps the debut steam going.

3. Personality-wise, Shanyn is TOPS. Seriously, I know very few people as reasonable and level-headed as Shanyn. She thinks things through and usually shows me a whole new way of thinking about something.

4. THE FUN FIVE. Yo, are you sick of boring interview questions? Of REALLY LONG interviews? Stop on over to Chick Loves Lit and check out Shanyn’s succinct Fun Five interviews. She has a wonderful way of bringing out an author’s personality in her interviews.

5. Steve Reviews! Yo, so sometimes Shanyn’s husband Steve will review a book on Chick Loves Lit and occasionally that book is YA! And YOU GUYS it is really fun to get an adult male point of view on young adult books. I definitely look forward to Steve reviews. OH OH and a bonus factor that has little to do with this reason — if you follow Shanyn’s twitter, she posts pictures of her dog Peso who is legitimately a bundle of ADORABLE.

  1. Another great blogger! Shanyn is so delightful and thoughtful. Great choice 🙂

  2. I’m loving these! And Shanyn rocks my socks off. She’s such a fabulous person. Seriously don’t know what I would do without her some days.

  3. This new feature of yours is pretty darn awesome. Off to check out Shanyn’s blog! 🙂

  4. I love Shanyn. We all love Shanyn. You couldn’t have picked a better blogger to feature!

  5. Love everything you said – Shanyn is such a sweet and generous person!

Peso is definitely adorable, and I love Steve’s reviews too! We usually agree when it comes to the fantasy books he reviews, so I know I can trust his opinion when it comes to the ones I haven’t read.

  6. This seriously is becoming one of my favorite things on Friday! I love hearing why you love other people’s blogs!

  7. I adore her Fun Five!! And her husbands interviews are awesome, I always show them to my husband – in hopes that I’ll get him to read something…(So far, it’s worked twice!)

  8. I just started visiting Shanyn’s blog recently to join her challenges and get some contemporary recs. I keep hoping my husband or daughter will review something on my blog but so far no luck.

  9. I like Shanyn’s blog because I get great contemp recs from there as I am not the best contemp reader ever. But I am working on it. I do feel like I occasionally spam her blog, though, as when I visit, I tend to visit and then work backwords for a few days with my comments, much like I do on this blog.

I like Shanyn most because the loves Fantastic Mr. Fox. I don’t know her personally but I’ve seen her say so a few times on Twitter and we have actually conversed about this. Roald Dahl AND Wes Anderson FTW.

And I love Steve reviews. A male POV is always a good thing as it is highly needed in this fun little hobby of ours.

    Yay for Shanyn!

  10. What the! April told me I would be on her blog today (Thank you April <3) but I did NOT imagine how ridiculously nice all of you would be in the comments! What is going on here!

  11. BEA ROOMIE!! I think I have the authority to say SHANYN IS THE BEST!! Even if she laughs at me while I’m almost dying because I’m stuck in a subway door 😛

  12. What a wonderful feature! I love getting to see what bloggers other people like to follow too! It was nice to ‘meet’ Shanyn!
    Thanks, margie

  13. I hadn’t heard of her blog before. I’ll definitely be checking it out. That’s awesome her husband reviews books on there, I have to see this. 🙂 This is a really great feature you do.

  14. Five Reasons Friday is a fantastic idea! I think it’s great that your’e helping other bloggers get exposure. Thanks!

  15. Oh, BACKLIST. You have said that magic word. I’m pretty sure I already follow Shanyn, but if I hadn’t… that would have done it. Like the feature!

  16. Thanks for the intro to Shanyn–always great to meet fellow bloggers! And very cool feature. There are so many great bloggers out there who sometimes get lost in the shuffle.

  17. I <3 me some Shanyn and Steve :D:D

  18. I love her fun five interviews. She always puts a fresh spin on things and I just adore her so.
