Top Ten Books That Put Me In A Glass Case Of Emotion

1. The Knife Of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

The Knife of Never Letting Go

Girl, I read The Knife Of Never Letting Go in public at a hair appointment. BAD IDEA. But at least I could lie and say my tears were from a painful eyebrow wax. I can’t even look at the book cover without getting sad. Even just thinking about the title makes my chest clench a little bit.

2. The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

My emotional reaction to Kvothe was a lot more positive. Like, I pretty much ran a victory lap with The Name Of The Wind both times I read it because it’s a legit fistpumper and also I wanted to punch it, mainly because of Ambrose. What a dick. Seriously, still thinking about it, I want to punch Ambrose in his smarmy face.

3. Bet Me by Jennifer Cruise

Bet Me, Jennifer Cruise, Trade paperback, book cover

Bet Me

YOU GUYS! Cal Morrissey. The end. Cal fricken’ Morrissey, it’s not illegal to find him attractive either and if ya don’t get heart palpitations during a certain Elvis scene check your goddamn pulse because you might be dead.

4. Harry Potter by JK Rowling ALL OF THEM

I've caught the golden snitch!

Holy hell. How do you live without having felt the emotional roller coaster that is THE BOY WHO LIVED MUTHAFUCKAAAA. lolol. Sorry, I like to curse a little now and then. But for serious, this series made me laugh hard, it made me cry, it made my blood pressure rise really, really high Dolores Umbridge I’m looking at you.

5. If I Stay by Gayle Forman

This book, I swear. Crocodile tears, y’all. It was THAT GOOD.

6. The Girl Of Fire And Thorns by Rae Carson

The Girl Of Fire And Thorns

OMG OMG, if I had one emotion to use on this book it would be passion and love. Because I loved Girl Of Fire And Thorns with the fires of a thousand suns and pushed it on people I knew in real life. And fist pumped. And then hopped on the g-chat and twitters to express MY FEELINGS. YOU GUYS! Capslocks were had all around.

7. The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak

The Book Thief, Markus Zusak, Book Cover, Dominoes, Prinz

The Book Thief

So, I just re-read this book via audiobook. Oh you guys, it hurts much more the  second time around. I literally sobbed over Hans Hubermann. I love your face dude, love it hard. And it makes me just so melancholy especially because I could pick up on the foreshadowing and sigh, just knowing how it all plays out. And god. I just. This book it’s worth the emotions. Trust.

8. Tempest by Julie Cross

Tempest

I haven’t reviewed this yet because I suck, but you guys when I finished it, I took to twitter and to g-chat. AND I mailed it to one of my favorite people ever, Allison at The Allure Of Books because I NEEDED to talk about it to someone I trust. Like, there’s this scene with Jackson and a certain child character and you guys the tears came like crazy. Sigh.

9. Plain Kate by Erin Bow

Plain Kate

So, most of the time I consider cats to be useless animals compared to dogs, because really.  BUT YOU GUYS TAGGLE WAS LEGIT. Seriously, Taggle did not suck for a cat and omg Kate, I feel you because she has the worst life, or at least the short end of the stick and I totally cried for her.

10. Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly

Revolution

Friends, I will forever be a Jennifer Donnelly fan girl because she wins on all of the factors in a book that matter to me. Andi’s depression and emotions just felt SO real in this book. And I was sad for her family situation. I fell for Virgil. I just felt so drained but hopeful after reading this and just writing this Top Ten Tuesday makes me want to re-read the book, haha.

  1. Isn’t that the truth about Umbridge??? Sometimes she seemed more the true villain than Voldemort.

  2. Seeing The Name of the Wind and Bet Me on your list makes me incredibly happy! How awesome are you?

Also, I am seriously starting The Knife of Never Letting Go TODAY. I don’t know why on Earth I keep putting it off.

  3. REVOLUTION was one of my all time favorite reads. And of course I second your love of the HP series.

    PS Long live Ron Burgundy!

  4. Books 4-6 on your list made me bawl in all kinds of nasty, snotting ways, but I could not stop. No matter how red my eyes got. And you too for Plain Kate? I really needed to jump this book and read it, because is not the first mention I’ve seen of it.

    – Asher (from Paranormal Indulgence)

    • YES!

I was almost a sobby mess during Girl Of Fire And Thorns, but then she became all kick ass, so I was like THIS IS THE SHIT RIGHT HURRR. And fistpumped all over the room instead of crying hahah.

DUDE get on Plain Kate it is legitimately excellent.

  5. the knife, yes yes yes.
    my throat still catches.
although i was a snotty nasty MESS after Monsters of Men.
i totally went to the other end of the house so i could loudly let all of my sobbing out and empty my kleenex box. i love todd hewitt so much.
seriously, no book has done to me what these three did. i WILL say that i don’t often read a series in order, back-to-back-to-back, which i did in this case. so that may contribute to the hyped up emotions i was feeling. at any rate, i was freakin ballistic nutty emotional after MoM. (probably as much because the series was over as much as what actually happened in the last book…)

sorry, patrick ness makes me chatty like a child on christmas morning.

    • It’s okay!

I still need to read Monsters of Men.

Have you read A Monster Calls yet? I heard that one was REALLY good. I just started the audio for it.

      • I have NOT read A Monster Calls yet! I’m still on an emotional high from Monsters of Men, and I’m riding it for all it’s worth…when it starts to recede, I’ll grab A Monster Calls. I’ve heard nothing but PURE SOLID GOLD about it, though. Solid gold and a box of kleenex, for sure.

Ness is just so solid and his work is so well-executed. Just last week I won a signed copy of Monsters of Men on Lisa the Nerd’s blog, and it is MY FIRST SIGNED COPY EVER. I peed, I passed out, then I died. I’m not even joking. I totally recommend getting all the way through the chaos walking series for the depth of emotion that the series provides. So, so good. If you loved Nailer from Ship Breaker – and I know you did because we conversed about it once – you will have nothing but hard, mad love for Todd Hewitt once the series is completed.

  6. I fail on all accounts, because I have not read a single one of these books. Except Harry Potter, but I’m only halfway through book 4 right now. But I’m ten kinds of intrigued about Plain Kate. I am a cat lady.

Ahhh still need to read If I Stay and can’t wait for Tempest~!

  7. You are awesome for loving Taggles. And Umbridge, dude, I had to stop reading to just breathe for a while because I felt I might, I don’t know, die from the frustration of not being able to slap her silly. And I just got The Name of the Wind but holy smokin bananas, the man can write. His prose…gah, his prose. Paroxysms of envy is what I’m saying.

    • Nafiza, you speak my language, the love for Rothfuss and bananas that smoke and Taggle and Umbridge hate.
You can totally have my BFF charm as FYA would say, because YOU ROCK!

  8. I think you’ve finally convinced me to read The Girl of Fire and Thorns. Did you do print or audio?

  9. I totally forgot about that scene in Tempest! I was lucky enough to borrow this from a sweet blogger friend, and had to return it, but you bet your bottom dollar I’m getting this book when it comes out!

Also Plain Kate sounds wonderful. I need to go ahead and just put it on my Christmas wish list already. And If I Stay! SOB. The Knife of Never Letting Go! SOB AND ANGRY BOOK THROWING.

    • I think you would really like Plain Kate. It’s very well-written. The language is something that you’d probably want to wrap yourself in, Erin Bow has that sort of way with words.

Sigh, Knife Of Never Letting Go, I was SO FRICKEN PISSED that a certain character managed to stay alive while a certain other character did not. What.the.hell.

  10. How did I forget The Girl of Fire and Thorns on my list!? So emotional. I’ve been kind of wary of Tempest, but I think I will have to read it now.
