Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi Book Review

Y’ALL Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi has a male love interest who isn’t a douchenozzle. HALLELUJAH!! Okay, so Shatter Me is mad hyped and while it is FANTASTIC, it’s not quite what I built it up to be in my head. Speaking of which, can we please stop comparing books which are nothing like The Hunger Games to The Hunger Games forever, it’s like comparing Dracula to Twilight saying they are so similar to each other because both have vampires. But I digress.

Shatter Me

Shatter Me is an utterly engrossing story about a girl named Juliette who can kill with her touch. The book opens with her imprisoned for months. HOWEVER today is different because she gets a roommate. A male. ADAM with the blue eyes from her past. Yo, Juliette is kind of emotionally damaged. You see, her parents are pieces of shit, she has magical powers that totally blow, and her society? definitely NOT a cake walk to live in. AND GET THIS. The Reestablishment totalitarian regime wants to use Juliette for evil. HOLY MOLY. THIS BOOK IS INTENSE.

Also, totally steamy. You guys know I am kind of a horn dog. However, I knew about the sexytimes in advance thanks to Carla. And I have to say, Carla don’t play around. The shower scene and the sexy times are fierce and swoony and appeals to my sensitive side. ALSO let’s do a little victory dance for no love triangle. Mafi, you’ve written us a book that does without that dumb cliche!! Thank you!

The society that Mafi has built is interesting. Shit has hit the fan, so there’s extreme rationing of everything and a militia in charge. It totally reminded me of the government in the V For Vendetta film where they explain that the British society is nuts because of fear and people letting a dictator take over in their fear just because they want to be safe again.

ALSO, can I say that Mafi just killed it with the ending. I literally fistpumped because I love when characters get angry and develop a backbone and come into their own. It was legit and AWESOME!
