If you have Magic The Gathering players in your life, you already know these characters

Samhain Corvus Lacroix, 19, college dropout, is a fry cook at a fast food joint in Seattle working with his best friend Ramon, cute brook and naive Frank in Lish McBride’s debut Hold Me Closer, Necromancer. After smashing douchebag Douglas’s tail light with a potato, Sam enter’s Doug’s focus. This is not a good thing as Doug is a necromancer and recognizes Sam is one too. Doug doesn’t take kindly to competition, unfortunately which means Sam only has a week to figure out how to escape douchebag Doug and access his necromancy powers.

Hold Me Closer, Necromancer

If you have Magic The Gathering players in your life, you already know these characters. Sam and Ramon are totally those people. They are nerdy. They play video games (nothing wrong with that). But they are also awesome with their witty repartee and are characters that I could not help but love as they bumble through the story.

Hold Me Closer Necromancer is a hysterical novel. I totally found myself laughing like a loon at various points, because I like I said I totally know that sort of person. And Sam, he is your normal 19 year old guy. He thinks about sex. He games. He totally can’t take being a necromancer seriously because it sounds like something out of Dungeons And Dragons. Sam feels authentic and real. He doesn’t feel like a sanitized male, but at the same time he doesn’t feel like a steaming pile of jerk either. There are sexytimes and swears and it is awesome. Also, another piece that I liked was how each chapter heading is a song, and good songs at that.

I would say Lish McBride’s Hold Me Closer Necromancer is definitely paranormal written for the nerdy of heart. I laughed my way through this and you will too if you are anywhere near as dorky as me.
