Review AND Giveaway: Forgotten by Cat Patrick

Can you imagine going to bed and not remembering anything when you wake up in the morning? In Forgotten by Cat Patrick, main character London Lane’s brain does not work like that of a typical teenage girl. Instead of remembering the past, she remembers the future. It’s a blessing and obviously a curse.

Forgotten

She has to write herself notes on a daily basis just to remember the little things like a test and bringing gym clothes to school. Yeah dude, girl’s life sucks. However, she doesn’t have to go it alone.

Her BFF Jamie is kind of a slut — by this I mean she is portrayed as one. She wears short skirts and dates around. However, here’s what I liked about Forgotten, London however is never resentful of Jamie. She’s never condemning of her for being sexually experienced. I really like that because usually when there’s a sexually active character, they are portrayed as bad, and the opposite character, the virgin character is portrayed as a Madonna. So, clearly, it’s cool to me that London has Jamie’s back and vice versa.

ALSO ALSO ALSO! I just want to come right out and say OMG OMG A NICE GUY WHO ISN’T A PILE OF DOUCHE! Forgotten has one of my favorite romance tropes. The one where the two lead characters knew each other way back when and then they reunite and a love connection happens. I love that! I love it way way more than instalove. Luke, London’s love interest is a nice guy. He never treats London rudely. He never puts her down to get her attention. Plus he’s really cool about the no past memories thing. Also, I’m going to put this out there: their kisses definitely bring the swoons.

I thought Forgotten had an interesting concept. I still can’t wrap my head around this book, mainly because I still don’t understand how remembering the future and forgetting the past works, like how does one remember their name or their family or any of that.

Forgotten has ridiculously short chapters and is under 300 pages. I think this would be a great read to give to someone who is reluctant, as it’s not challenging. Plus the plot really does keep you turning the pages.

About Forgotten by Cat Patrick in case you skipped the awesome review above:

What if every day when you woke up, you had no recollection of the days before?

Each night at precisely 4:33 am, while sixteen-year-old London Lane is asleep, her memory of that day is erased. In the morning, all she can “remember” are events from her future. London is used to relying on reminder notes and a trusted friend to get through the day, but things get complicated when a new boy at school enters the picture. Luke Henry is not someone you’d easily forget, but try as she might, London can’t find him in her memories of things to come.

When London starts experiencing disturbing flashbacks, or flash-forwards, as the case may be, she realizes it’s time to learn about the past she keeps forgetting – before it destroys her future.

About the author:

On a rainy November morning, new baby sleep deprived, Cat Patrick forgot what she was doing. She retraced her steps but instead of remembering, the idea for Forgotten was born.

Cat lives near Seattle with her husband and twin daughters who now, thankfully, sleep through the night. Forgotten is her debut novel.
