We all want to be remembered. Charlotte's destiny is to be forgotten.
Charlotte's best friend thinks Charlotte might be psychic. Her boyfriend thinks she's cheating on him. But Charlotte knows what's really wrong: She is one of the Forgotten, a kind of angel on earth who feels the Need—a powerful, uncontrollable draw to help someone, usually a stranger.
But Charlotte never wanted this responsibility. What she wants is to help her best friend, whose life is spiraling out of control. She wants to lie in her boyfriend's arms forever. But as the Need grows stronger, it begins to take a dangerous toll on Charlotte. And who she was, is, and will become—her mark on this earth, her very existence—is in jeopardy of disappearing completely.
Charlotte will be forced to choose: Should she embrace her fate as a Forgotten, a fate that promises to rip her from the lives of those she loves forever? Or is she willing to fight against her destiny—no matter how dark the consequences?

Y’all Suzanne Young is not a one trick pony. She has more up her sleeve than ninja cheerleaders. While The Naughty List made me laugh (and I will confess, cry a little bit), A Need So Beautiful ripped my heart out of my chest and stomped on it. If you’ve ever been in love, if you’ve ever had a pain in the ass job to do, A Need So Beautiful is the book for you.

Charlotte is a foster kid with a super rich best friend, a motorcycle riding boyfriend, oh yeah and a Heavenly mission. However, she isn’t some lameass angel who goes around drinking beer and hiding behind human boys named Xavier. Oh heck to the no. Instead, A Need So Beautiful by Suzanne Young has legitimate sacrifice. There are things that are actually at stake here with palpable emotions.

You see, Charlotte has this thing inside of her called the Need. When the Need pulls her, Charlotte is compelled to find people who need assistance. Charlotte will then tell the people something – i.e. turn yourself in. Then the thing Charlotte tells the person ends up changing their life. Anyways, each time Charlotte fulfills a Need, she begins to crack a little bit more and turn gold, aka into one of the Forgotten. YEAH THAT’S RIGHT BEING AN ANGEL ISN’T ALL SUNSHINE AND PUPPIES! The Forgotten are these beings who come to Earth in mortal form. They go around helping people in the same way that Charlotte does. However, eventually everyone who has ever known a Forgotten loses all memory of the Forgotten person and it is as if they cease to exist. Actually, the Forgotten burst into light. So yeah, Charlotte is screwed.

I mean, can you imagine being head over heels in love with your long term boyfriend, and then find out that he will eventually forget your existence and you will turn into an orb of light for a few minutes? It sucks. It sucks that Charlotte never gets a choice in the matter and she is pretty much damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t. GUYS my heart strings were tugged HARD. I ached for Charlotte and Harlin, who we all know has limited time with her.

I love that A Need So Beautiful made me think deeper about sacrifice and faith, even though it wasn’t Jesus-pushy at all. I just got to thinking how I’m not sure I could be down for sacrificing my life just to fulfill a higher purpose or burst into a hope-giving light. Maybe I am selfish, but I think this book conveys this type of question so well. I mean, we all know that teenagers are self-absorbed, and lest you think I judge, I was a teen once and was incredibly self-absorbed, and still am to an extent. Now, imagine being a self-absorbed teen in this situation and how hard it would be to see beyond yourself.

If you are looking for an amazing tear jerker that you won’t be able to set down until you have turned the last page, look no further than A Need So Beautiful by Suzanne Young.
