I’m So Excited And I Just Can’t Hide It: BEA Books I Would Knock An Old Lady Over For

I’m pretty sure that’s one of my longest post titles ever, but kids,  I am Jessi Spano excited about BEA. I even am having dreams about BEA, being a BEA veteran, my dreams are fairly accurate.

Listed below with summaries from Goodreads are books that I will legit knock people out of the way to get seeing as how I’ve been treadmilling 3 days a week and am now in great physical condition.

What Happened To Goodbye by Sarah Dessen

A) It’s Sarah Dessen.

B) Although everyone and their mother got this for review, I didn’t because Penguin is not my brother from another mother. SO, I am desperate to read this and get it signed by Sarah.

Summary:

What Happened To Goodbye, Sarah Dessen, Book Cover

What Happened To Goodbye

And Mclean’s become a pro at reinventing herself with each move. But in Lakeview, Mclean finds herself putting down roots and making friends—in part, thanks to Dave, the most real person Mclean’s ever met. Dave just may be falling in love with her, but can he see the person she really is? Does Mclean herself know?

The Faerie Ring by Kiki Hamilton

A) Gorgeous cover

B) Victorian London and orphans. Enough said.

Summary:

Faerie Ring, Kiki Hamilton, Book Cover

The Faerie Ring

Debut novelist Kiki Hamilton takes readers from the gritty slums and glittering ballrooms of Victorian London to the beguiling but menacing Otherworld of the Fey in this spellbinding tale of romance, suspense, and danger.

The year is 1871, and Tiki has been making a home for herself and her family of orphans in a deserted hideaway adjoining Charing Cross Station in central London. Their only means of survival is by picking pockets. One December night, Tiki steals a ring, and sets off a chain of events that could lead to all-out war with the Fey. For the ring belongs to Queen Victoria, and it binds the rulers of England and the realm of Faerie to peace. With the ring missing, a rebel group of faeries hopes to break the treaty with dark magic and blood—Tiki’s blood.

The Carrier Of The Mark by Leigh Fallon

A) Ireland setting

She finds herself increasingly drawn to Adam and his strange family. Adam knows a secret from her past and he and his family hold the key to her future. A future that binds her to Adam and his world, a world of power, mystery and ancient orders. A world that unbeknownst to her, she very much belongs in.

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

A) Spin-off of Vampire Academy, one of my most favorite series EVER.

B) SYDNEY and the ALCHEMISTS. Yes, capslocking ensues.

Summary:

Bloodlines, Richelle Mead, Book CoverWhen alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.
Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive—this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone’s out for blood

Daughter of Smoke And Bone by Laini Taylor

A) Prague setting. Setting matters to me.

Summary:

Smoke And Bone, Laini Taylor, Book CoverAround the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”; she speaks many languages–not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When one of the strangers–beautiful, haunted Akiva–fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself

So friends, fellow BEA attendees, what books are you PSYCHED about?

*Disclaimer: I’m not actually going to knock old ladies over. HOWEVER, I do move very fast. Survival of the fittest, darling.

  1. Hahaha I would totally knock a lady over for some of those too, especially for Bloodlines and the Faerie Ring. I hadn’t heard about the latter, but it does sound awesome.
    Great post!

  2. Ooh that Sarah Dessen one looks amazing! The two books I most want to get my hands on are Crossed (Ally Condie) and Goliath (Westerfeld).

  3. I can picture you knocking* over an old lady, especially the ones with walkers who get in your way or walk too darn slow! 🙂

    *not really.

Great book selection. I’m excited for BEA!!!! It’s gonna be a smashing time!

  4. Yeah! I’m with you on most of those. I’m way too timid to knock over old ladies, though. =P

  5. Oh, how I wish I could go to BEA this year! Hopefully next year.

The Faerie Ring looks lovely and I’m excited about a new Laini Taylor. Does the cover for The Carrier of the Mark remind you of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer? I like the strong vertically of the title and image. If it’s a new trend in cover art I wouldn’t complain. 🙂

  6. ooo, these look good, especially the Liani Taylor one. I have to sit down and go through the BEA scheduling to figure out what books I want, but.. I’m still dealing with BEA books from last year. I am probably going to TRY to make it a small list, and then when I get there, I’m sure my willpower will give way. It always happens. 🙂

  7. I want the Dessen sooooo badly!!!! and The Carrier of the Mark!!! and the new Deanna Raybourn too.

OH MY GOSH I AM FREAKING OUT.

  8. HA! April, you crack me up!

I didn’t know Laini Taylor’s new book will be there! I looove her writing.

The Faerie Ring is on my wish-list for 2011 debuts.. *lusts*

  12. Beautiful picks! I don’t blame you 😉

  13. Miel et Lait says

Carrier of the Mark is sounds A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!

    I haven’t made a BEA plan. I should, shouldn’t I? I need some serious BEA counselling.

  14. Yay Saved by the Bell reference! 😀 Also, I wanna see you knock an old lady over, lol. I’m excited for a ton of books and I highlighted a couple the other week, but I’m also excited for Faerie Ring and Carrier of the Mark from your list.

BEA is gonna be so AWESOME!

  15. Oh how I wish I could go to BEA and check out the goings on of business behind tge scenes!

“The Carrier of the Mark” by Leigh Fallon gets my two enthusiastic thumbs up producing the ‘woah’ factor!

“What happened to Goodbye?” looks good too, hell, they all do! Loving the cover artwork-all very individual and striking in their own way!

Enjoy the day and don’t forget to keep hydrated! 🙂 all that running around…

  17. Oh yes – The Faerie Ring! I so want to read that book.

  18. I have about 95% decided to go to BEA for the first time this year. Can you give me the final 5% of why I should go and how awesome it is?

  19. If you’re going to be at BEA, I’m going to be signing at the RWA booth on Thursday morning. Nine-thirty, I think. If you’re around, I’d love for you to stop by, since you’re the author of what is still my absolute favoritist review ever.

    IJS… 🙂

  20. Ooooo – I didn’t know the new Laini Taylor book was going to be there, either! That one is at the top of my WANT list. Send us lots of pics and updates from BEA, April!
