BBAW: Future Treasure

Today’s prompt…
“We want to hear all about your FUTURE treasures.  We’ve been visiting each other and getting to know each other better…now is your chance to share what you enjoyed about BBAW and also what your blogging goals are for the next year!”

GOALS: I has them.

I’d like to begin podcasting. Especially a YA podcast. Now I know there’s already one out there: YA Literature Review… but I would love to start my own. I have a few ideas. To me, this is a good way to attract people who are auditory learners.

I want to start a standalone books feature. Mainly because one of my pet peeves is reading a book that I think would be perfect on it’s own, only to find that it ends with a cliff hanger or there’s another book I need to wait for to finish the story. I was thinking I could use aliteration if I do Standalone Saturday or Standalone Sunday, however this would be a bi-weekly or monthly thing, as there’s already so much that I do on Saturdays and Sundays.

I want to review more GLBTQ themed books. Last year, I tried to step up my PoC reviews, and I’ve done okay at that, I am still progressing. Still reading about PoC. However, I would love to throw some GLBTQ into the mix. I already have My Most Excellent Year waiting on the backburner. Do you have any recommendations? (I’ve already read and reviewed Ash by Malinda Lo)

I am considering moving over to wordpress. I love the commenting structure over there, but I just worry that I would lose feed subscribers, content, comments, all my hard work, etc. I also think the layouts look cleaner. To me, wordpress lends itself to interaction and conversation, whereas blogger, there’s no option to directly reply to someone’s comment without putting — PERSON A — reply to your witty comment, or emailing a reply. PLUS freakin wordpress has it where you can put your twitter name in one of the boxes for commenting. That is awesome. Dear blogger, I would not considering leaving you if you were more like wordpress.

May you continue reading great books and blog about those for us!

Here is my BBAW: Forgotten Treasures post!

  2. My problem with WordPress is that you can't customize your look, and I have to be able to play with my html! 😀

Glad to hear you'll be reading more GLBT books. Julie Anne Peters is an excellent YA GLBT author. Her book Between Mom & Jo was my very favorite last year.

  3. I've been considering switching over to wordpress for the exact same reasons and been having the exact same fears.
In a weird way, though, I feel loyal to blogger.

And I think your standalone feature would be awesome!

  4. WordPress is great – I've only ever used it though, so I can only imagine your hesitation. Possibly you could keep this site open and when people stop here you could redirect them to the new one. Just a thought. 🙂

Hope you have the chance to check out my goals too. 🙂

  5. Ok, see, I've been skimming posts so much that I'm not paying attention to what I'm reading … I thought your first line said "I'd like to begin procrastinating." Oops! LOL

If you do start a YA podcast I'd definitely listen in, even though I'm not a YA fan. 🙂

  6. I definitely love the stand-alone feature idea…it's definitely one of my greatest pet-peeves as well *cough* Shiver *cough* 😉

  7. I'd listen to your podcast!! 🙂

I've been annoyed with the commenting issue with Blogger as well. I want to foster discussions on my blog and I think WordPress allows you to structurally do that better. I hope they change it so I don't have to switch.

  8. You can add a better comment system to your blogger blog. I've added Intense Debate to my Freelance Writer Blog if you want to see it. I just haven't got around to it with my book review blog yet.

  9. Yes, I do so love the commenting in WordPress. If that is your main reason though, there are other commenting systems you could use like Intense Debate or Disqus, possibly?

As for your other goals – love them! A podcast sounds fun, though I am much more visual and rarely listen to them. Also, GLBTQ books are fun. May I (HIGHLY) recommend the upcoming (March 2011) book I AM J by Cris Beam 😀

  10. Good luck with your goals next year! I hope you'll be able to accomplish all of them. I have to agree with you about the commenting system in WordPress, I love it!

  11. I like the idea idea of a feature about standalone books! Bravo.

The wordpress commenting system is cool. However, with WordPress I'm not sure if there's a way to follow blogs other than e-mail or what kind of feed reader there is, which is why I've never seriously considered switching. But you make some good points!

I love the idea of a podcast. My husband and I actually just got an MP3 player (I know, we're totally late to this party) and I've been looking for some YA podcasts and hadn't had much luck. So thanks for the link and you definitely have my support for starting one yourself!

As for LGBT books, one of the best ones I've read this year was Sprout by Dale Peck. Another good book, though I was less impressed by the lesbian romance is Wildthorn by Jane Eagland. Good luck

  13. If you need GLBT suggestions, just email me. I'm also holding a GLBT Week next month so you can check that out too.

I love the idea of a podcast- that would be fun! I'd totally listen to it.

    Good luck with your goals!
