Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours. But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures. So much for normal.

Evie, main character of Paranormalcy by Kiersten White, has an interesting job. She tags and bags paranormals for the IPCA, an international organization which tracks, you guessed it, paranormal creatures. It’s a hard job, but somebody has to do it. With her pink taser, aptly nicknamed Tasey, Evie takes these creatures down. Did I mention her BFF is a mermaid and that Evie wears a lot of pink? Clearly, she would be my friend if she were not fiction.

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White exudes fantasticisms. First, there are the cute outfits Evie wears. Normally I could care less about fashion (pretend you don’t see Cosmo in the corner), but honestly, I want Evie’s boots. Read the description. They are cute dot com.

Second, the boys. What YA is complete without boys? Yes, yes, I know a lot of YAs actually are complete without this. Now! One boy described is sort of a dingus. He’s all let me touuuuuuch you! And actually makes me think of that irritating game where you hold your finger up to someone and go ‘I’m not touching you’, only he’s actually touching here. The other boy though, Lend, is quite adorable, plus he can shift into your ideal of hot. Sign me up please.

Third and best is Evie herself. Sure, she whines quite often, but girl’s never gone to school or really lived a normal teenage life. I know, what a tragedy never experiencing the hell that is high school, but the grass is proverbially greener on the other side. Now, through the whining shines Evie’s marvellous voice. I legit laughed out loud when she was explaining why she would much rather capture zombies than vampires, because vampires are gross and dead but they think they are hot and sexy, whereas zombies know they are gross and dead. Also, because of Evie, I look at lockers in a whole new light. Clearly, they are nowhere near as lame as we all thought.

I enjoyed the fact that Paranormalcy by Kiersten White was pure unadulterated fun. I’m not sure if this is a series, but I wouldn’t mind hanging out with Evie some more, and I absolutely look forward to more from White as she puts the fun in para-fun-normal.
