Prepare to be Tested. The story that kicked off the international #1 bestselling Vampire Academy series is NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE. Read it Before it Hits Theaters February 14th, 2014! St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . . Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever. Watch a Video Is your school a Vampire Academy? Take the quiz and find out! When I first bought the Vampire Academy books, I only did it because money was burning a hole in my pocket and my fellow book bloggers were singing Richelle Mead’s praises. I bought the Vampire Academy books back around September and had yet to actually read them, with my towering TBR I just never made it a priority to get to Vampire Academy. Cut to a few days ago when posts started cropping up in my feed about a chat with Richelle Mead. Being who I am which, friends, is a lemming, I decided I wanted to go to the chat because everyone else was and OMG famous author! Of course, you don’t just go to an author chat without having read anything by the author, that’s just lame. Cue my picking up of Vampire Academy. Here’s the thing, I opened the book with trepidation thinking  oh this is going to be just one of those paranormal books riding on Twilight’s coattails.

Amigos, I was WRONG. Vampire Academy is,as Erica at the Book Cellar said on twitter, made of AWESOME.

Rose Hathaway, the dhampir is a bad ass mother-f-er. I loved her attitude. I loved the things which would come out of her mouth. I think it was on the sixth page of Vampire Academy where she explains how she became best friends with Lissa, that I knew I would love this book. Basically Rose tells the reader about calling her teacher a fascist bastard at the tender age of six. I about died laughing over this part.

Vampire Academy is the first of the series, so there’s character building and backstory. However, Mead doesn’t leave out action at all. I thought Vampire Academy was funny, dark, sexy, and gripping. There’s one scene between Rose and a certain sex-god male character which gave me chills! Good chills, of course.

You have got to check this book out if you enjoy paranormal, YA books. Also, it’s nice to see girls who kick ass. One word of warning, Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead has swears and sex and alcohol, so basically if you live under a rock and have never heard swears, pass on this book. Otherwise, run yourself to the bookstore and read this book.

While reading Vampire Academy I suggest you drink something indulging, such as a Frosty from Wendy’s. Oh and if you are made of awesome like this book, I’d suggest you get some fries to go with your frosty and dip the fries in the frosty, it sounds gross but actually is quite delicious.

So umm April *casts eyes down and rubs finger in circles on desk* you wanna give me your extra copy? 😛 lol. I've been dying to read this and want to go to the author chat but since I haven't read the book it doesn't make much since that I go. Probably try getting off Book Depo because everyone is just singing this book's praises. I almost feel guilty for having not read it yet when it seems everyone else has. XD
