Diversifying My Reads!

My URL is readingisthespiceoflife, a play on the term variety is the spice of life. I try to post about a variety of genres, although I tend to slant towards the YA reading genre. Well, my reading is about to get more diverse. Last year, I only read 12 books  out of my total of 156 books featuring people of color or written by people of color. Lame, right?

This year, 2010 is a year for changes. This year I plan on reading a larger portion of PoC books, in part because  of how much I think whitewashing sucks, and also in part because there are so many awesome books out there which just so happen to be written by people of color. I also would never ever want someone to call me ignorant, therefore I am going to educate myself.

I encourage you to color your reading as well and join the People of Color Reading Challenge.

I’m joining at Level 5 read 16-25 books written by PoC authors or featuring PoC. I hope to go above and beyond. I will be reviewing every book I read for this challenge.

Here are a few of the books I am looking at reading:

Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
Copper Sun by Sharon Draper
Wait For Me by An Na
Monster by Walter Dean Myers
